Firestorm Cosplay

As you can imagine, Firestorm is a very difficult costume to cosplay.  Previously, we’ve featured Allen Hansard and Brad West (both from the Superhero Costuming Forum) in their excellent Firestorm cosplay efforts.   We’ve also featured the super-fun 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International Firestorm guy.  Today we’re going to look at a few more I’ve come across.

First up is actor and professional wrestler, Eric “The Smoke” Moran.  I met Eric briefly at Dragon*Con 2010 when he was cosplaying Captain Marvel.  At the Baltimore Comic-Con, Eric cosplayed the Jason Rusch Post-Infinite Crisis version of Firestorm.  While there, Eric managed to get his picture taken with Jamal Igle, the artist who designed the costume for the Firestorm comic series!

Below is a recent Firestorm cosplay by Mr. Jamester who runs the Firestorm the Nuclear Man Facebook group.

This next photo comes from the Toronto Comic Con 2011 and features Black Lantern Firestorm cosplay, along with Black Lantern Hawkgirl and Black Lantern Terra.

Finally, we have another Firestorm cosplay, this time by cptnspndx also of the Superhero Costuming Forum.  The picture is tiny, but you can see he put a lot of effort into the costume!

Breaking News: Details on New Fury of Firestorm

Ethan Van Sciver was interviewed by the guys over at ComicBooked.com.  During the interview Van Sciver spilled some major plot details about the upcoming Fury of Firestorm series.  Here is a quote from the interview:

JP- While I know DC is keeping generally tight lipped on a lot of the relaunch series, what can you tell us about the new Firestorm? What can the fans expect from the series?

EVS- What I can tell you is that Ronnie and Jason are both in it now, both of them are Firestorm. They aren’t half of a Firestorm anymore, although they can fuse and can become a ten-foot tall being of nuclear energy that you will be seeing in issue #1. It is the same natural concept that Firestorm has always had to him, two guys burned into one. I always felt that the idea of me being a young man, all excited to be a superhero, but having a stodgy old professor, who is a wet blanket that ruins everything, stuck in my head at all times. “Ronnie be careful! Ronnie look out!” As a kid, and you go back to this thing where it needs to appeal to kids, that’s my worst nightmare. That isn’t a power fantasy, to be half a superhero with my dad in my head. That’s horrible! But the idea of you two guys (referring to the ComicBooked.com interviewers, Jordan and Nick) being superheroes and being best buddies, to have the ability to, if you were facing a problem that was too big for you, high-five and turn into the equivalent of the Incredible Hulk if he was on fire! That sounds cool, you know?

The Fury of Firestorm by Ethan Van Sciver

It’s a digital Firestorm – The Nuclear Man comes to comiXology!

Firestorm has gone digital!  You can now download the original five issue run of Firestorm from comiXology!  And each issue is only $0.99!!!  That’s a heck of a deal for Gerry Conway’s and Al Milgrom’s earliest Firestorm appearances.

Firestorm the Nuclear Man comes to comiXology

Personally, I recommend you also buy the upcoming Firestorm trade paperback.  It includes several Flash back-ups, and some possible surprises.  Additionally, if we want to see subsequent Firestorm collections, we need to support this first trade paperback.

My thanks to Doug Zawisza (of Comic Book Resources, the Doom Patrol blog, and the Red Tornado’s Path blog) for the heads-up about this comiXology listing.

Firestorm in Flashpoint: Legion of Doom

Firestorm recently appeared in Flashpoint: Legion of Doom #1.  Flashpoint is an alternate reality tale, but it does appear they used the post-Brightest Day incarnation of Firestorm.  Check out his appearance below…

Firestorm in the new Justice League?

On Bleeding Cool yesterday, an image by Jim Lee was released featuring the new Justice League.  The team consists of Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Flash (presumably Barry Allen), and Cyborg.  Interestingly, in the background you can see Deadman, the Atom, Elemental Woman (presumably), Green Arrow, Hawkman, Power Girl (presumably), Mera and… FIRESTORM!  Yes, Firestorm is featured in the new Justice League promotional image.  Hot dog!

DC Relaunch: Justice League by Jim Lee

Click the image above to enlarge. High resolution image via The Aquaman Shrine.

This matches up with something Geoff Johns said on Twitter back on June 21.  Our good buddy Brandon Leonard wrote on Twitter to Geoff, “Hope firestorm is part of the new Justice League he deserves his spot back!”  Geoff responded with, “We will eventually have a large team like Justice League Unlimited in a way so we’ll see!”  The combination of Geoff’s quote on Twitter, combined with Firestorm appearing in the background of this image, suggests that Firestorm will be on the team eventually, but not right away.

Now we gotta wonder which Firestorm is this?  Is this Ronnie, Jason, or “Super-Storm”?  To me, this looks more like Jason because there are no black bursts around the eyes and the headpiece isn’t pointed on the cheeks.  However, that might just be artistic interpretation.  Regardless, exciting news!

My thanks to the legion of match-heads that send this news my way: Brandon Leonard, C.T. from Nerd Lunch, Frank Lee Delano, and Keith Baker!
