Ethan Van Sciver art from upcoming Firestorm

As reported a while back, Ethan Van Sciver will be drawing the interiors for The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #7 & #8. Ethan has been kind enough to post some teasers on his Facebook page. Along with these images, Ethan commented that he thought Firestorm #7 might be his best work to date.  Very exciting stuff!  Check out these great pieces below!

Take a good look at the image below. This doesn’t bode well for our favorite Nuclear Men…

According to Ethan, below is the British Firestorm from issue #8!
I love the way the British flag was worked into the costume! Brilliant!

The one below was labeled as, “Jason and his father comfort Ronnie Raymond’s mother.”
Oh-oh. That doesn’t sound good for Ronnie!

Finally, below is a blazingly cool drawing of Pozhar, the Russian Firestorm.

Super Heroes Have Issues Too t-shirt

Fellow match-head Patrick Wait recently spotted this humorous t-shirt at Kohl’s.  You can also order it from My Tee Spot.

It’s hard to make out the design from the image above, so I found this other image online.  Apparently they don’t make the white version anymore, but the design is essentially the same as the purple one above.

My thanks to Patrick for the heads-up on this fun shirt!

Happy Birthday Firestorm Fan Blog!

Today marks the third birthday of the FIRESTORM FAN blog!  Hard to believe it’s been three years already!  More than 400 posts, over 1,500 comments, and nearly 250,000 page views!  It all began with a post entitled, “Why a Firestorm blog?”  When I started this site, Ronnie Raymond was dead and Firestorm was composed of Jason Rusch & Gehenna.  Firestorm vol. III had been canceled and the character had been relegated to very irregular appearances in the Justice League of America comic.  Firestorm was a background character, barely active in the DC Universe.

Fast forward three years… Firestorm was recently a headliner in Brightest Day, one of DC’s best-selling comics!  Now there is an ongoing Firestorm comic by top-notch creators!  There are several different Firestorm characters running around the DC Universe!  We’ve got an entirely new continuity to explore for the Nuclear Men!  There have been numerous Firestorm-related toys released in the past few years!  Firestorm has appeared in multiple animation projects and even had a McDonald’s Happy Meal toy!  Hard to believe how things have changed in just three years!

Firestorm birthday cake!

To help celebrate the occasion, I thought I list some of the all-time most popular posts on FIRESTORM FAN:

One of the greatest perks of running this blog has been the amazing opportunities I’ve had to chat with Firestorm writers and artists.  All of them are super-nice and have been incredibly generous with their time.  I’m incredibly proud of the interviews we’ve done here at FIRESTORM FAN:

My thanks to all you match-heads for reading and commenting on this site!  I’m looking forward to many more years here at FIRESTORM FAN!

Firestorm in Captain Atom #2 (April 1987)

Our good buddy Frank from the Power of the Atom blog was kind enough to send us today’s scans! These come from Captain Atom #2 (April 1987) and were penciled by legendary Firestorm artist Pat Broderick! Story by Cary Bates and inks by Bob Smith.

The two pages below served as bookends for the main storyline.  Below is the first page of the comic. Click the image to enlarge…

It’s nice to see Firestorm included with some of DC’s other premiere characters! Also, it’s always a pleasure to see Pat Broderick draw Firestorm and Plastique again!

My thanks to Frank for sending these scans! Be sure to visit the Power of the Atom blog for all your news on Captain Atom and The Atom!

Firestorm Custom Action Figure

Today we’re featuring a Firestorm custom-made action figure produced by fellow match-head John Gulick.

Firestorm custom action figure by John Gulick

Here is some background on how John made the figure:

I have wanted to make this custom for a long time. I always liked the character and Firestorm’s design, even though it is a bit dated today.  I tried this before with a Microman body, but once I’d seen the new Marvel Universe Dr. Strange I knew that I had the perfect base. (Just had to wait to find one.) Recipe is Slayer design studios head, upper body Dr. Strange, lower legs are MU Falcon and MU Cyclops, the rest of the costume details is apoxie putty.

I’ve never tried customizing my own figure, but I can imagine it’s very difficult. My thanks to John for sharing his custom-made figure with us!

Project Rooftop Firestorm by Andy Trabbold

Check out this cool fan-made Firestorm redesign by Andy Trabbold! I like the simple and slick design! This appeared on the Project Rooftop website.

Project Rooftop Firestorm by Andy Trabbold

Here are Andy Trabbold’s thoughts on his design:

My first thoughts on redesigning Firestorm was to un-busy his costume. I pared it way down, reversing the colors and leaving the white out. I also wanted to re-imagine his chest symbol as built into his frame. He’s a walking reactor now, barely containing the energy inside of him. He’s a nuclear man after all- a total powerhouse, and I wanted him to portray that message in a simple, succinct way.

My thanks to Michael Kaiser for the heads-up about this cool design!

We’ve got a special treat today here at FIRESTORM FAN – an exclusive teaser from Yildiray Cinar, artist on The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men, promoting issue #5 of the series!

Also, I’m not entirely sure as it’s hard to see the full costume, but this might be the same Firestorm from the cover of Fury of Firestorm #7. I can’t wait to find out!

Looking forward to The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #5 in stores January 25, 2012!
