Firestorm on Trial

Remember when Firestorm was sued by Felicity Smoak back in volume II of The Fury of Firestorm?

Felicity Smoak threatens to sue Firestorm

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Felicity Smoak, she is currently appearing on the CW’s Arrow, and in the comics she eventually became Ronnie Raymond’s step-mother. Weird twists of fate.

The reason I ask if you recall the lawsuit is because a cool website called Law and the Multiverse has been covering this suit from a real-world legal perspective.  This site focuses on the hypothetical legal ramifications of comic book tropes, characters, and powers. So far they’ve published three parts about Firestorm and it’s really fascinating.  Click the links below, then continue to follow their coverage of the trial!

OFFICIAL: Firestorm Ongoing Series Canceled

So, yesterday kinda sucked for us Match-heads. If you haven’t seen the news, there is a little tiny snippet in an article on CBR. Click here to read the entire article. The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #20, shipping in May, will be the final issue of the series. Click here to read Dan Jurgens response to the cancellation.

The cancellation of The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man wasn’t terribly surprising as we’ve all heard about the low sales. However, I personally find this cancellation disappointing because the past four issues of Firestorm by Dan Jurgens, Ray McCarthy, and Hi-Fi have been a breath of fresh air, both for the character and for superhero comics in general.

Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #14 by Dan Jurgens, Ray McCarthy, and Hi-Fi

My thanks for all the kind messages I received on Thursday. You guys are amazingly supportive of the character and me personally.  I truly appreciate it. Hopefully Firestorm will continue with the Justice League so we can get our monthly fix of ole Match-head.

Not surprisingly, I’m feeling pretty down right now. I’ll see if I can muster some positive spirits within the next few days. In the meantime, be sure to submit you entry for the “What Do You Like About Firestorm” contest! Given the dark cloud over the Nuclear Man’s future right now, this contest is even more important! Enter today and you might win a prize!

Contest: What do you like about Firestorm?

Hey Match-heads, the FIRESTORM FAN site just turned four years old and we want this birthday party to include you! Tell us why you like the character of Firestorm and you could win prizes in this contest!

Firestorm: The Nuclear Man

The rules of the contest are pretty simple… Just share what you like about Firestorm, or a favorite memory involving the Nuclear Man. Write these thoughts in the comments section of this post or e-mail them directly to me by clicking here. You can discuss any era/incarnation of the character, or any series where he appeared (i.e. Fury of Firestorm, Justice League of America, Brightest Day, Super Friends cartoon, etc).  The only restriction is haters need not apply. If you’ve got a bone to pick with a particular incarnation of Firestorm, this isn’t the place. This is a celebration of Firestorm, so let’s keep it positive! The contest will run until 10pm EST on Sunday, February 17th. So be sure to get your entries in before then. One entry per person please. Once the contest closes on February 17, we’ll collect all the entries and set them up as a poll to be voted on by readers, and the top-rated five will win!

We’ve got some great prizes! Check these out:
