CW and Danielle Panabaker bring Killer Frost to TV

Actress Danielle Panabaker is joining the cast of the upcoming CW TV series The Flash as Caitlin Snow. Snow is described as a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs.

Match-heads will recognize the name Caitlin Snow as the alter ego of The New 52 incarnation of Killer Frost. In case you missed her origin during Villain’s Month in Justice League of America #7.2: Killer Frost, here is a brief recap from Wikipedia:

Dr. Caitlin Snow is a scientist sent to S.T.A.R. Labs Outpost #72 in the Arctic to work on a thermodynamic engine whose creator has committed suicide. However, she soon discovers the place has been infiltrated by H.I.V.E. agents, when they tried to kill her inside the engine Caitlin frantically ripped of the coolant system merging her body with ice. Transformed in a heat vampire, she killed the H.I.V.E. agents and continued to search for other sources of heat eventually discovering Firestorm blasts can temporarily heal her condition.

Keep in mind they haven’t specifically stated that Killer Frost will appear in the TV series. However, it’s a safe bet that if Caitlin Snow is a character, Killer Frost can’t be too far behind. I can’t help but wonder if we can get Firestorm supporting characters Killer Frost and Felicity Smoak on television, what are the chances of getting our favorite Nuclear Man on the small screen?

Below is a news round-up on Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow being added to The Flash. My thanks to the legion of Match-heads that gave me a heads-up on this news: Daniel “Cynical” Adams, Luke Jaconetti, Keith G BakerOscar Olalde, Daoud Faquiryan, Dave Cox, Clark Edwards, and Matthew McKinnon-Gray.

We wish Danielle Panabaker big congratulations on landing this role!

  1. Panabaker has a little bit of history with live action superheroics: she played Layla, the female lead in the superlative Disney film Sky High. For those who do not know, Sky High is about a high school for the super-powered kids of superheroes, and it’s a lot of fun. The cast includes genre favorites such as Kurt Russel, Lynda Carter, Bruce Campbell, Cloris Leachman, a young Mary-Elizabeth Winstead, plus two Kids In The Hall: Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald.

Unlike Killer Frost, Layla’s powers in the film were to control and manipulate plants.

  2. I forgot all about Sky High. That was a pretty fun movie.

I have enjoyed ARROW a lot more than I expected to. It’s not for everybody–it’s not even really for comic book fans, necessarily–but the latter half of season 1 and the majority of season 2 have been entertaining and full of fan-service. That’s encouraging for THE FLASH, although I wonder how soon–if at all–Snow will become Killer Frost when The Flash already has a more high profile cold-based villain in his gallery.

  3. Oscar Olalde says:

Thought that girl from Sky High faded away after that project, not a surprise that she is grown up now but still it’s quite a surprising change.
