Ringing in the New Year with a Killer Frost Pin-up

Happy New Year’s Eve, match-heads!  This past year was a great one here at FIRESTORM FAN, and next year is going to be even better!  To close out the year we’re featuring a rarely seen Killer Frost pin-up by John Hanley from the 1996 Rogue’s Gallery painted comic.  This issue featured many of the prominent villains from the 1995 crossover Underworld Unleashed.

Since we’re talking crossovers here, let’s have one of our own!  Our good buddy Frank Lee Delano is spearheading a New Year’s Day crossover featuring pin-ups from the Rogue’s Gallery comic!  Be sure to check out these blogs on New Years Day for more great pin-ups!

Deathstorm’s Winter Fun

Fellow Firestorm fan, A.j. Chwaster, was kind enough to direct me towards his Firestorm-themed holiday comic strip for 2010.  You may recall last year he did the “Under the Mistletoe with Firestorm” comic strip.  This year he focuses on Firestorm’s doppelganger.  Seems Deathstorm is out keeping slippery snowy sidewalks safe for everyone this winter, but Firestorm doesn’t approve.  Thanks A.j. for sending this my way!

Firestorm in a lost issue of Marvel Two-in-One?!?!?!

Marvel Two-in-One proudly presents the Thing and Firestorm the Nuclear Man in “Nuclear Incident!”

Marvel Two-in-One featuring Firestorm

No, you didn’t miss an actual inter-company crossover starring our favorite match-head.  This is fictitious meeting is the work of a gentleman named Ross who runs The Brave and the Bold: The Lost Issues blog.  That site is dedicated to the greatest team-ups that never happened.  He started with Brave and the Bold fake covers starring Batman, and has recently transitioned into Marvel Two-in-One fake covers starring the Thing.

Be sure to check out Ross’ work! There are some real gems in there, and they were all done with Microsoft Paint!  Impressive!

Firestorm Rule 63

The internet proves that Rule 63 still remains true.

Feuersturm gegen Schwarzer Bison

In 1984 a German comic entitled Superman’s Freunde #4 (translated as Superman’s Friends) featured Firestorm.  Below you’ll find the cover which reused artwork from the cover to Fury of Firestorm #2 by Pat Broderick. The cover text translates as “Firestorm against Black Bison”.  It’s such a surreal cover anyway, but with the Mexican-looking “Feuersturm” logo it’s even weirder!

Firestorm versus Black Bison in German - Feuersturm gegen Schwarzer Bison

Near as I can figure there were only five issues of Superman’s Freunde and each featured a different hero, so this may have been the only appearance by Firestorm in the series.

My thanks to fellow Firestorm fan Florian Schwalenberg for sending this my way!

Firestorm and Killer Frost on Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Both Firestorm and Killer Frost recently appeared on the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold.  The episode entitled “Darkseid Descending!” aired on December 3, 2010 and featured a three minute opening teaser with our favorite Nuclear Man and his frosty arch-enemy.  Killer Frost was voiced by Jennifer Hale.  Firestorm was not featured in the bulk of the episode, that privilege was reserved for a make-shift Justice League International.

In the teaser we discover Killer Frost is actually Louise Lincoln, former girlfriend of Ronnie Raymond.  Apparently Ronnie was quite the terrible boyfriend as he made Louise pay for all their dates and broke up with her via text message.  Ouch!

It’s interesting to note the original Killer Frost in the comics was Crystal Frost, with Louise Lincoln becoming the second Killer Frost. It’s sort of surprising  that they chose Louise for this appearance.  The name Crystal Frost for an icy character seems right up the alley of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Here are a few screen captures from the episode.
