Disney & Firestorm Mash-up with Goofy, Elsa and Jiminy by James Silvani

I love this convention sketch by James Silvani so much! It features a very clever mash-up between Firestorm and Disney characters! Goofy is playing the role of Ronnie Raymond, Jiminy Cricket is playing the role of Professor Martin Stein, and Elsa the Snow Queen from Disney’s Frozen is playing Killer Frost! Click the image to enlarge!

This sketch comes from the collection of die-hard match-head Philip Rutledge (a.k.a. Count Comics)! He picked this up at the Emerald City Comic Con 2014.

Artist James Silvani really knocked this one out of the park! It’s cute, clever, and works on so many levels!! Silvani is best known for his work on Boom’s Darkwing Duck series a few years ago. Keep up with James Silvani on his website, his blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr!

Futures End teaser, plus does it tie into Crisis on Infinite Earths 30th anniversary?

This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day and with it comes The New 52 – Futures End #0! Newsarama ran an in-depth interview yesterday with Dan Jurgens and Brian Azzarello on the upcoming weekly series.  Definitely head over to Newsarama and read that interview. While Firestorm wasn’t mentioned by name, he does show up on the teaser image below! Click the image to enlarge.

The New 52 - Futures End teaser poster

A big surprise in the interview was the discussion how the conclusions of The New 52 – Futures End and Earth 2: World’s End coincide with the 30th anniversary of Crisis on Infinite Earths. This It was described as serendipitous. Hmmm.. where is all this leading? Speculate and discuss!

Danielle Panabaker debuts as Caitlin Snow on Arrow

It’s been quite the week for Killer Frost! Yesterday we talked about the new Batman: Assault on Arkham animated film featuring Killer Frost. Today we’re shouting-out Danielle Panabaker’s debut as Caitlin Snow on last Wednesday’s episode of the CW’s Arrow. You Match-heads already know, but for those unaware Caitlin Snow is the alter-ego of the new Killer Frost appearing in recent DC Comics.

This appearance of Caitlin Snow serves as a lead-in to the upcoming Arrow spin-off, The Flash. Both Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon (played by Carlos Valdes) are slated to appear in the pilot of The Flash (and possibly as regulars). No word yet if Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow will become Killer Frost, but seems likely given the faithfulness to the comics displayed on Arrow. If you missed last week’s episode of Arrow, check your local cable company for on-demand options or watch it on Hulu. You can also check out a scene with Panabaker on DC All Access by clicking here (scene starts at 3:14).

Great job, Danielle! Looking forward to your role as Caitlin Snow on the upcoming Flash TV series! My thanks to all the folks who gave me heads-up on this appearance (far too many to list here, but you know who you are!).

Killer Frost in new animated film – Batman: Assault on Arkham

Killer Frost appears in the new trailer for the upcoming animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham! The film is a vehicle for the Suicide Squad, including characters such as: Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Riddler, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and more. This direct-to-video release takes place in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham video game franchise. First announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, it should see release in mid-2014. No word yet on the voice casting for Killer Frost, but we’ll keep you posted!

Who's Who The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #19

Here are your Firestorm-related Who’s Who entries from this issue…

First up is fellow Satellite-era Justice Leaguer, Red Tornado by Joe Brozowski (Firestorm artist) & Greg Theakston! Firestorm and Red Tornado fought side-by-side several times, however, the adventure connecting them closest is probably Justice League of America #192-193. Red Tornado’s origin is revealed and only Firestorm is privy to all the details. Click the image to enlarge.

Next up is the Royal Flush Gang by Tom Mandrake (Firestorm artist)! Firestorm has battled these folks a few times. Just to name a couple: Justice League of America (vol 1) #203-205 and Firestorm (vol 3) #17. JLA #205 wraps-up with a great battle between Hector Hammond and Professor Martin Stein! Click the image to enlarge.

Finally, a tangentially related character, Roy Raymond TV Detective by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez (Praise Be His Name). Writer/artist Dan Jurgens recently established during his run on Firestorm that Ronnie Raymond is the nephew of Roy Raymond! While we haven’t seen them together yet, we do have this scene from The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #14. This works in the New 52, but wouldn’t have worked in the Pre-Flashpoint continuity (since Ronnie’s real family name wasn’t Raymond). Click the image to enlarge. So… anyone get my subtle Tangent reference in the same paragraph as Dan Jurgens?

Love this adorable art by Nekemeko of our favorite Nuclear Man up against Killer Frost! This image is an homage to their confrontation in Crisis on Infinite Earths #1.
