  1. Oh sure, bury me at the back of a 3 hour long feedback episode! Who am I, Air Wave?

Seriously, I had a lot of fun going over those ads with Shagg, and it’s a testament to the show and the goodwill you’ve built that you can HAVE a 3 hour long feedback show AND make it entertaining!

By the way, our part of this crossover is at the BEGINNING of our episode. Just sayin’. :-)

    Chris

  2. I spent all afternoon listening to this episode as I was working on my computer, and then as a reward I got to hear Chris and Shagg talk about all the ads. Great show, guys!

    1. I was NOT born wearing angry pants. I have been known to say and do nice things on occasion. Is it MY fault if we keep talking about The Stupid Sons and Zaney Haney when I was one of those young teens who wanted his comics SERIOUS?
    2. I remember those American Entertainment ads fondly. They came out while I was living in Japan and I used that company to get semi-regular US comics sent to me….such as the entire Zero Hour Crossover event, various trade paperbacks, and annuals. They were dependable, and the international shipping was not too expensive. Many were the days when I would come home from a tough day teaching English to Japanese kids to find a white box with red lettering, making my day.
    3. I, too, met David Sopko in his native land…at a pizzeria called The Green Lantern (no lie). We, too, talked about our kids and our passions. I asked him to write up one of his more interesting stories for the LSB, and he did so. It was the last thing he did for us. He recommended a few local comic book shops I checked out the next day. I dropped his name at both places and they knew him and liked him. He will be missed.

Great to hear everyone’s feedback! One note on the Doctor Fate discussion: I just looked up the forthcoming Immortal Doctor Fate paperback and it doesn’t look good. Amazon now shows it as a late March 2016 release and I thought it was releasing in December? Also…and more disturbing…it’s listed as “currently unavailable” instead of “pre-order” which is how it was previously listed. This tends to mean the trade’s been cancelled. What a bummer.

  4. Martin Gray says:

Thanks for a great listen, it’s appreciated.

Is Spider Island divisive? It’s just old school Spider-Man fun. The Dr Octopus mind-swap saga or the one with all the jnterdimensional spider people I could see – but surely this is non-contentious?

I demand Shagg continues his ‘world tour’ and actually leaves the US. That, or visit me by Skype. I wanna hug him!

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy didn’t seem cheap at the time it originally aired, so there. How can you not love Peter Davison suggesting you eat him?

I’ve never seen MotU or Transformers. Any good?

I loved hearing about all the US TV shows. A pal sent me Voyagers, I managed about five mins, but then, I’m an old git now. At the time I might have liked it as much as Fantastic Journey (Jared Martin, swoon).

Interesting to hear about Santa Claus Dutch-style – I recommend you watch the horror movie Sint, it’s in Dutch but is a really fun ride. But let’s not talk about Black Peter.

Fascinating to hear the end tune has changed – I must admit that I tend to skip the excellent tunes now, especially the opening one that goes on for about a day. Be proud though, how many other shows have original songs?

I never got those Got Milk ads. Is there a cachet in the US attached to pretending you don’t know how to drink out of a glass? The only way to get a milk moustache is to sup it upside down. Sad.

  5. […] episode as it’s a crossover with our own FIRE & WATER PODCAST! Earlier this week on the FIRE &WATER PODCAST, Chris Franklin and Shag reviewed old comic book advertisements. Be sure to check out this episode […]
