BOOM! Firestorm. TV. Series. (plus some other folks)

Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein - Firestorm on The Flash

Firestorm is going to headline an ongoing TV series! Not a hoax! Not a dream! Not an imaginary story! This is happening, Match-heads! Happy early Birthday/Christmas/Life Day all rolled into one!

My mind is still reeling! Firestorm, Atom, Captain Cold, and Black Canary starring together in an ongoing team-up TV series?!?!?! Deadline broke the news and we don’t know much yet, but here is the scoop from their website:

DC Comics superheroes are uniting in a potential new drama series at the CW, a spinoff from hits Arrow and The Flash that will feature several fan-favorite recurring actors/characters from both shows. I have learned that the network has teamed with Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim for a project eyed for next season toplined by Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz.

The untitled project, now in development, is described as a superhero team-up show. Routh, Miller and Garber will reprise their popular DC Comics characters — Arrow‘s Ray Palmer/The Atom (Routh), Flash villain Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Miller), and Flash‘s Dr. Martin Stein (Garber). Because her Arrow character Sara Lance was killed off, with her sister Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) taking over as the Black Canary, it is unclear whether Lotz will play the same or new superhero.

The project is in early stages of development, so there is a possibility for other Arrow/Flash characters to cross over to the new spinoff. Additionally, in a tidbit that should get fans fired up, I have learned the new project will include three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series.

No mention of Robbie Amell just yet. Hmmm… Hopefully it’s just casting issues and he will star in the show too. If not, then the Firestorm matrix certainly has room for other folks. Maybe we’ll see a Jason Rusch/Martin Stein Firestorm.

Whatever the final casting… we are getting a TV series starring Firestorm! Hard to believe, but it’s really happening!

This is awesome! I’m hoping the Robbie Amell signing comes soon. A Rusch/Stein Firestorm would be horrible.

I was thinking that Atom and Firestorm would make a great show. With Palmer and Stein working together to figure out more of how the Firestorm Matrix works, running into new enemies, etc. There could even be an arc where Palmer goes missing (like in Sword of Atom).

Then again, I always wanted a DC Anthology show. It would be a great way to introduce heroes to the public, with an overreaching story that crosses the heroes in an epic event. Plus, if some episodes are more successful, Kapow! Spin-off shows.

  5. The fact that Captain Cold is already attached to this is the only thing that gives me pause. Please, CW, please, let him play the villain in the pilot episode. Don’t make him a regular. Do not follow DC Comics down the same horrible path of making your best villains members of the Justice League (even though Miller is a thoroughly underwhelming Leonard Snart–arguably the weakest part of the entire Flash series).

The rest of the news sounds great, especially the prospect of more Caity Lotz as Black Canary. I’m not sure how she’ll figure into the series, but I’m excited.

Great news, a couple of things have me wondering though if Firestorm will really be a (regular) part of this. Victor Garber has said that he doesn’t want to relocate to Canada where they film The Flash (and presumably this show). With the lack of Robbie Amell being mentioned, I’m thinking maybe we’re going to wind up with a Ronnie/Jason FS over on The Flash, while Stein is more of a scientific consultant on this new show? Something to think about anyway.

  7. James says:

    Garber but no Amell means:

    A) Prequel?
    B) Rusch/Stein FS?
    C) ELEMENTAL Firestorm, i.e. Stein solo? (longshot, but…)
    D) Robbie just hasn’t committed/been announced yet?

    1939-1953. 1954-1986. 1986-2011. 2011-2015.

  9. Rusch/Stein worked pretty well in the last few months of the Stuart Moore run. If only DC had given that pairing more of a chance to shine before deciding to kill Stein off (a couple of times, it seems, due to the muddle that was Countdown, even BEFORE they did so more properly in Brightest Day).

  10. (And I wasn’t even counting that bit with “the Pupil”)

Don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but I don’t see this happening. It’s “in development.” If it does get off the ground really, it’s gonna need some solid writing to pull this off with this cast of characters. Don’t get me wrong, I really, really hope they do get this going. And I hope it is good. I just don’t see this happening.

  12. […] to news reports from last week, the unnamed Arrow/Flash spin-off will not include Robbie Amell. We knew he wasn’t part of the initial announcement, but here […]
