So what did you Match-heads think of Robbie Amell’s performance as Ronnie Raymond last night on The Flash?!?! Let’s jump right to the discussion! We’ll leave the episode recap for other websites. Besides, you watched it already yourself, right?!?
One thing I enjoyed last night was the live Tweeting! Both Robbie Amell and Danielle Panabaker were Tweeting during the west coast broadcast of the episode. It was fun interacting directly with both of them! Nice folks who really seem to love their jobs!
ROBBIE AMELL AS FIRESTORM
My first impressions…
- I really enjoyed Robbie Amell’s portrayal of Ronnie Raymond! Ronnie was compassionate, self-sacrificing, and even had a sense of humor. I suppose the biggest compliment I can give is that I totally accepted Robbie Amell as Ronnie Raymond.
- Making Ronnie the lead engineer on the particle accelerator project is an interesting choice. It’s certainly a departure from the “dumb jock” personality of the comics. Yet you still get a sense that he’s a hard-working mechanic, rather than a number-crunching engineer.
- I thought the wardrobe was a nice touch. Ronnie’s shirt sleeves were rolled up. In the comics he’s a get-your-hands-dirty kind of guy, so I felt the wardrobe was in keeping with that personality.
- It was heart-wrenching watching Caitlin as Ronnie was “killed”. Strange, Ronnie and Caitlin have never maintained a relationship in the comics, yet I totally bought it on screen. Well done Robbie Amell and Danielle Panabaker!
What did y’all think of Robbie Amell as Ronnie Raymond?
PARTICLE ACCELERATOR DOOR
According to Robbie Amell on Twitter last night, the door to the particle accelerator has a Firestorm symbol embedded in the door! We don’t see the entire door during this episode, but you can make out white circles along the outer ring. Check the images below:
How cool is that?!? I took a couple screen shots that show the door (see below).
LOOKING AHEAD.. FIRESTORM WILL APPEAR IN DECEMBER!
The past few days have seen lots of interviews published with Robbie Amell about his role. Below I’ve pulled out some particularly relevant bits from The Hollywood Reporter interview:
You meet Ronnie Raymond tomorrow [in “Fastest Man Alive”] and then in December, you meet Firestorm. It’ll take a minute before Firestorm turns back into Ronnie because when they find him in December, my character is really going through some stuff. He’s schizophrenic, doesn’t know what’s happening, he’s confused and dangerous to the people around him. You may not see Ronnie Raymond for a little while, but you’ll see Firestorm.
People will barely recognize him in December, but they’ll know it’s him when the fire bursts in the hands and the fire bursts in the head. The particle accelerator almost killed Ronnie and the fallout from it will definitely be seen in December.
I worked with Victor Garber on a TV movie a couple years ago and he was awesome. He’s so freakin’ talented and it doesn’t hurt that my fiancee [actress Italia Ricci] is the biggest Titanic fan I’ve ever met. She’s more excited about me working with Victor Garber than anything else. I gotta start watching Alias and start working on my Victor Garber impression. Sometimes Firestorm is Ronnie and sometimes he’s Martin Stein, but physically it’s going to be my body. I’m just excited to work opposite him because, I mean, he’s Victor Garber. The fact that I get to share a character with this guy is going to be really fun.
The telekinesis [on Tomorrow People] is really similar to my shooting nuclear energy out of my hands and some other powers, which I can’t give away. One of them is really badass and that’ll be revealed in one of my episodes in December. They’re not holding anything back. Firestorm is very powerful and it definitely helps to have been shooting a sci-fi show leading into this.
From the amount of powers they’ve given him [Firestorm], he’s going to be a difficult foe for anyone to go up against.
Very interesting! Start the countdown! Firestorm coming to your television this December! Also, interesting how they plan to handle Ronnie and Martin sharing the body. Sounds like Victor Garber will provide the voice while Robbie Amell does the physical acting. Or at least, that’s how I’m interpreting it.
Wow! Such a great performance by Robbie Amell last night and exciting things ahead! I can’t wait!
Support Firestorm! Fan the Flame!
I am so beyond excited after that episode. Thirty years after seeing Firestorm sitting on the shelf. Thirty years of him being just out of the spotlight. Thirty years of, “Fire who?” The past ten years or so have been exciting, more figures, solo titles, but never the recognition. I also accepted Robbie as Ronnie whole heartily. I love his cousin as The Arrow, so I’m anticipating me loving Robbie playing my all time hero best and forever, hahaha. This is a great time for superheroes, cheers to all of us that have spent our lives in these worlds!
Time index 26:16 gives you the best shot of the door (when Caitlin and Barry go down to the accellerator corridor)…
There was also a Blue Devil Reference!:

I’m starting to think someone in the DC TV division is catering specifically to you Shag.
I was hoping/expecting him to have more screen time, but I suppose that will come in December. That said, I think Robbie Amell was great as Ronnie. I expect episode 12 will see flashbacks to Ronnie and Prof. Stein meeting and then merging. Loved the “fire and ice” bit as well.
When Ronnie and Cisco go down to the Accelerator (around 17 minutes in.. course this is from my DVR so it has commercials) they show a good shot of the door and by God… yes it is the Firestorm emblem…..
God I love this show.
