Below you have another great Brian Bolland Animal Man cover!  Technically this cover features Freedom Beast, but I figured it was worth displaying here.

So those are the greatest B’wana Beast covers of all time!  Come to think of it, those are about the only B’wana Beast covers ever (with the exception of a Crisis on Infinite Earths or Who’s Who cover).

B’wana Beast Action Figures

This may be hard to believe, but there have been four different B’wana Beast action figures produced by Mattel in the past few years.  The first was released in the Justice League Unlimited line as part of a six-figure boxed set (along with Crimson Fox, Superman, Deadman, Commander Steel, and Vibe).

Next up were two figures from the Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series.  One figure was made in the five-inch scale (called “Machete B’wana Beast” after his accessories and action feature) and another in a two-pack with Batman as part of the smaller Action League series (similar in size and design to the Marvel Super Hero Squad figures).

Finally, a six-inch scale DC Universe Classics figure of B’wana Beast was released in the “Justice in the Jungle” two-pack with Animal Man in December 2009 as a MattyCollector.com internet exclusive.

Hard to believe he’s got just about as many action figures as a more popular character like Power Girl!

B’wana Beast Cosplay at DragonCon 2010

I never imagined I’d see anyone cosplay our favorite Jungle Master… but here it is!  At DragonCon 2010, this totally ripped dude pulled off a fantastic B’wana Beast!  I took these pictures myself during a DC Comics Cosplay photo shoot. The folks over at the Superhero Costuming Forum do an outstanding job organizing these photo shoots.

Below is B’wana Beast again along with a gorgeous Goblin Queen (Madelyne Pryor)!  I didn’t take this picture, but according to Flickr it was taken at the Silver Snail Halloween party in 2010.

POLL: B’wana Beast or Freedom Beast?

Okay folks, the question of the day: WHICH HERO DO YOU PREFER, B’WANA BEAST OR FREEDOM BEAST?

B'wana Beast versus Freedom Beast

Sorry folks, this poll is closed.  For the record, B’wana Beast won.

I know.. it’s a tough decision.

B’wana Beast Temporary Tattoo

I came across these Batman: The Brave and the Bold temporary tattoos a while ago, at a gas station of all places!   At the time I featured them on FIRESTORM FAN because the Nuclear Man is among the tattoos.  However, the real reason I bought the package was for the B’wana Beast tattoo!  What could be cooler than wearing our favorite Jungle Master as a tattoo?!?!?

Below is what the package looks like so you can watch your local gas stations.

Our good buddies Frank Lee Delano (of more blogs than you could possibly imagine), Rob of THE AQUAMAN SHRINE, and Doug of RED TORNADO’S PATH have also featured some of these temporary tattoos on their sites!  Frank’s also featured a similar Batman: The Brave and the Bold sticker set.  Show the guys some appreciation by demonstrating you know how to click.

Napoleon Dynamite’s Liger – B’wana Beast’s Greatest Achievement?

Remember in Napoleon Dynamite when he drew the “Liger”?

Deb: What are you drawing?

Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.

Deb: What’s a liger?

Napoleon Dynamite: It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic.

A mixture of two animals and it involves magic?  Sounds like the work of B’wana Beast to me!  Maybe the film producers are fans of our favorite Jungle Master!

B’wana Beast and Beta Ray Bill – Marvel vs DC Amalgam

Remember back in 1996 and 1997 when DC versus Marvel resulted in the Amalgam titles?  Well, Paul Cornish is a brave soul keeping the tradition alive with his own Amalgam characters over at The Amalgam Age of Comics.  Back in November 2010, he presented the Amalgam of B’wana Beast and Beta Ray Bill – B’wana Ray Bill!

On that post, our good buddy Siskoid made a very insightful comment about B’wana Beast being the original Amalgamator!

Pre-Order the FIRESTORM: THE NUCLEAR MAN Trade Paperback Right Now

Two weeks ago DC finally published their solicitation for the FIRESTORM: THE NUCLEAR MAN trade paperback.  It’s been listed on Amazon for months, but it’s nice to finally see the official announcement from DC.  Also,  keep reading as there may be some “easter eggs” that aren’t mentioned in the solicit!

FIRESTORM: THE NUCLEAR MAN

Written by GERRY CONWAY; Art by AL MILGROM, GEORGE PEREZ, KLAUS JANSON and others; Cover by AL MILGROM

For the first time, the stories that introduced Firestorm are collected from issues #1-5 of his 1970s series, plus stories from THE FLASH #289-293. After Ronnie Raymond is tricked into nearly blowing up a nuclear reactor, he and Professor Martin Stein are caught in a nuclear incident. Their personalities merge, forming the being called Firestorm!

176pg.  |  Color  |  Softcover  |  $17.99 US

Firestorm The Nuclear Man #1 by Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom

Okay, here’s the information on the possible “easter eggs”…  Rumor has it that DC may consider including previously unpublished material in this collection.  Some items that immediately spring to my mind include the sixth unpublished issue of Firestorm the Nuclear Man, as well as pencils from issue #7 and character design sketches.  Issue #6 only ever appeared in Cancelled Comic Cavalcade with a minuscule print run of just 35 copies.  If this is true, it would be the first time we’ve ever seen issue #6 in color!  How cool is that!?!?!  I’ve done some calculations myself, and if they include all the issues from the solicit (including covers), they still come up about 30 pages short of the advertised 176 pages.  That leads me to believe we just might see this bonus material!

Contact your comic book shop and pre-order your copy right now!  Even if you already have the issues, order a copy of this trade!  Let’s send a clear message to DC that we’ll support Firestorm comics in trade paperback format!   If you want to see further Firestorm reprints, such as collected editions of The Fury of Firestorm series, then order this trade! By purchasing a copy you’re also supporting creators like Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom!  Order today!

Firestorm commission by Kevin Maguire

Check out this gorgeous Firestorm commission by Kevin Maguire!  Our good buddy Doug Zawisza (of Comic Book Resources, the Doom Patrol blog, and the Red Tornado’s Path blog) commissioned Maguire at the C2E2 convention for a drawing of the classic Firestorm.

Firestorm commission by Kevin Maguire

Kevin Maguire is one of my favorite artists!  Probably best known for his work on Justice League, he is a true master of facial expressions.  Above you can see he was clearly going for “The Fury of” look.

My thanks to Doug for sharing this amazing commission with us!  Thanks!

DC Unveils Brightest Day #23 Cover

This week DC unveiled Gary Frank’s cover to Brightest Day #23

Brightest Day #23 cover

Looks like the elemental prediction from a few weeks ago was right on the money.  I wonder if they’ll mention Firestorm’s previous Elemental incarnation.

Watch for Brightest Day #23 in stores on April 6th!  My thanks to liquidcross of The Indigo Tribe blog for directing me to this cover.
