As always, thanks to my co-host Rob Kelly, Sea King of THE AQUAMAN SHRINE, for doing all the post-production on these episodes! Opening theme, “That Time is Now,” by Michael Kohler. Great interview guys. Obviously, I’m behind this whole initiative, but listening to Gerry actually talk about this has me pumped that much more. Such a class act. No vitriol, no nastiness…just asking for clarification and compensation on things due to him. Nothing more, nothing less.
I was glad you brought up Vibe at the end of the show. There’s a potential Conway creation in EVERY single Flash episode, unless you start splitting hairs.
Looking forward to all the crossover episodes, and to news that this situation is resolved to Conway’s, and hopefully other creators’ satisfaction.
Chris
Hey, as a heads-up, you guys are getting pimped over on Bleeding Cool.
Oops, I see Shag responded there already.
I love interviews, especially when the subject is so candid and open. It’s like getting a peek behind the proverbial curtain!
I don’t find it inconceivable that DC Entertainment could suffer such systemic incompetence as to screw over hundreds if not thousands of creators out of monies due to them. It’s just a tad inconvenient for that theory that many of those same creators have been seeking these monies for half a decade, and absolutely no one addressed the issue until the company was publicly shamed and forced to go into spin mode. “Hollywood accounting” has caught on in many if not most other businesses, especially since the crash of 2008, or maybe that’s just what tipped everyone’s hand to offer some real numbers.
The Outhousers also referenced this interview, though they referred to you as The Pat Benetar Podcast.
It pleases me to hear Gerry Conway makes money off The Vixen. I’m going to watch that web series so hard!
Cisco Ramone IS Paco Ramone. “Paco” is a nickname, not a proper given name, so DC just “fixed” that aspect of Conway’s character. It’s still Vibe, or at worst a derivation of same.
Fantastic Episode & Interview!!! It’s really great that this issue is gaining traction and getting noticed in a big way!!! Hopefully that attention brings with it real change from DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. so that creators like Gerry, and so many others including Alan Brennert, finally get the creator equity payments that they are owed in accordance with the contracts DC provided back in the 70’s and onward. It’s very clear now how out of touch DC’s own employees are in handling the policy. It was great to hear that even derivative characters are supposed to result in equity payments, meaning the reason they gave for Brennert not getting a check is incorrect and he should still receive payment!
This was a fantastic way to kickoff the #ConwayXover series of podcasts, I can’t wait to hear the other fine podcast episodes dedicated to spreading the word on this issue and showcasing Gerry’s work!
Fan the Flame, Ride the Wave, and fight in Gerry’s Corner! Great Episode!
