Firestorm Chess Piece on the Horizon

Eaglemoss, the folks who gave us the Firestorm & Deathstorm collectible lead figures, are currently producing pieces for a Justice League Chess Set. So far we’ve seen solicits for pieces such as: Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Supergirl, Lex Luthor, and Deathstroke. Thanks to eagle-eyed Match-head, Ray Tigner, we now know that a Firestorm piece is in the works for this chess set! Check out the inside cover to the recent DC Chess Collection Magazine! Each hero listed represents a future chess set piece. If the placement below is accurate, it appears Firestorm will be the Queen’s Bishop Pawn.

If you are unfamiliar with Eaglemoss’ DC chess sets, below is their own description plus a photo of the recently completed Batman Chess Set.

The DC Chess Collection is a new fortnightly series offering the comic fan and chess lover alike the chance to collect fantastic and unique chess pieces, vivid representations of some of DC’s greatest characters. Each chess piece is accompanied by a fascinating magazine featuring superb DC artwork plus vital chess tips.

There should also be a Killer Frost piece getting made too, if the initial list holds true. This forum thread is a good source of info:

Well look at that! Firestorm and Cyborg too!

Firestorm, a mere pawn?! What nonsense!

  4. Firestorm as a pawn I can buy, but Hawkman? At least Hawkman is the Queen’s Pawn, heh.

The idea of the Martian Manhunter as a Knight is very, very amusing to me for some reason.

It was funny…i had just purchased the last Batman piece, The Question….feeling grand and and also because of the financial burden this chess set became, I had decided i wasn’t getting the JLA version. Till I opened the Superman chess set and loudly explained, DABLAMIT! cause i saw flame-head posted…so i maybe at least getting the Firestorm piece 😉 (of course i had to tell the head match-head as well, to share the news with others)

Martian Manhunter could easily have been a pawn and would have been in good company as such. Instead, he’s a knight alongside Batman, which pleases me that much more. I hope that Fernando Pasarin head shot means his interpretation is the basis for the piece, since his has been my favorite take out of the New 52. I also wasn’t that wowed by the earlier Eaglemoss piece, so I hope they do a better job this time.

  7. Frank, the Manhunter has to be on the back row, as it is the “founders” of the JLA. The “Big 7″ and now Cyborg. He also makes perfect sense as a knight — he’s not a straight-ahead attacker like Flash, GL, Aquaman, or Cyborg, instead he flanks his opponents and hits them when they don’t see him coming.

Who the heck is the King’s Rook Pawn? Power Girl?

  8. Ray Tigner says:

“Who the heck is the King’s Rook Pawn? Power Girl?”

Looks like Power Girl in her New 52 costume (before going back to the “boob-window” version)

  9. I guess I have to hope that Black Canary makes the villains side of the board sine she’s still wanted for the murder of her husband…

    God, Birds of Prey sucks…

  10. Kyle Benning says:

What?!?! How come they went with Power Girl over Black Canary? Am I the only that thinks it seems a little redundant having Supergirl and Power Girl in this set?

  11. Jon says:

Black Canary was in the previous Batman-themed chess set (pawn I think) so she could be swapped out from there.

Where do you buy your pieces

    1. Jon says:

eBay is your best bet, do a search for “firestorm chess”, or “DC Chess” if you’re after other pieces too :)
