Super Powers Action Figures TV Commercial

Hell ya Firestorm’s gonna save Hawkman! And for the record, Firestorm don’t need Superman swooping in to save him from a fall. Firestorm can fly all by himself. Beat it, big blue!

Thanks to Michael Bailey of Fortress of Baileytude and Views from the Longbox for directing me to this video.

*grumblegrumble* Lousy flame-headed jerk saving Hawkman who could win all by himself because he’s the best ever *grumble*

What I find interesting about this commercial (along with some of the Star Wars ones, IIRC) is that it opens with Hawkman being captured by 4+ Parademon action figures. How many kids ever had that many “mooks”? I mean, if I were a child of limited resources — as many are — would I look at my Christmas wish list or my month-saved allowance and think, “Hmm… I know! I’ll get a =fourth= Parademon/Storm Trooper/etc.”? Or would I think, “I’m gonna get me that sweet Firestorm figure!”

I think the Masters of the Universe got it right in that regard; there =were= no mooks, although there certainly were a lot of ancillary characters of questionable merit.

Related to Steven’s comment, the kids in these commercials always had the most elaborate, cool backyards to play in: waterfalls, different piles of rocks in interesting, playset-ish formations, jungle-ish forests, etc.

All I had was a big lawn and some of those propeller seed pods scattered about. How the f**k am I supposed to make the planet Hoth out of that?

  4. Shag, just accept that Superman would have to save him and stop complaining.

Who got Firestorm in the League?

    Who was that?

That’s pretty boss! I like the one introducing Green Arrow, Dr. Fate and Martian Manhunter best, of course. First animated appearance for at least of of those characters, I suspect…
