Superhero Sillies that are Shaggtastic!

Given that this blog is about Firestorm, I rarely get to talk about something specific to me. Let’s face it, you’re here to read about our favorite hothead, not the random adventures of Shag. But today those worlds intersect thanks to the most dastardly creative man alive, Mr. Luke Daab!

Luke has been creating a series of fun images he calls, “Superhero Sillies”.  He recently pulled together the artwork below featuring three of my all-time favorite characters: Firestorm, Doctor Fate, and Blue Devil! And he tagged it with my name! I was speechless when I saw what Luke had done! Check them out below and click the image to enlarge.

So much fun, right?!?!? We’ve seen the Firestorm “Superhero Silly” here previously, but this is the first I’ve seen Doctor Fate and Blue Devil! The Doctor Fate helmet totally rocks! And I love every aspect of Blue Devil, from the curved horns to his tongue sticking out! Brilliant!

Luke Daab is an insanely talented artist, writer, musician and puppeteer. We’ve featured a handful of Luke’s fantastic artworks previously – click here to see those.   • Dark Horse is collecting Dan Jolley’s series Bloodhound, originally printed by DC Comics. Dan Jolley wrote Firestorm vol III at the same time as Bloodhound, and they even had a crossover.   • Fellow Match-head and Firestorm cosplayer Kory sculpted a super-fun Firestorm recently! Check it out!
  • Shannon Cornthwaite wrote a reimagining of the DC Universe including a Green Lantern/Firestorm integrated origin. Check out Lantern Storm by clicking here!
  • Finally, Lil’ Russell Burbage sent me a link to a derogatory blog posting entitled, “There is ‘lame,’ and then there are Firestorm villains.” This was posted back in 2008, but is still worth a read. New issue solicited! Killer Frost’s first New 52 appearance! A fold-out cover! What more could you ask?!?!

Yesterday DC Comics released the solicitation for The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #19 shipping in April 2013! Check out the chilling cover below penciled by Dan Jurgens and inked by Ray McCarthy! Well… actually I guess this is only half the cover. Richard was kind enough to share this awesome tattoo with us! It’s inked on the upper left-hand portion of his chest. You can see the progression of the tattoo coloring on his Facebook page (and his cool Speedball tattoo too)! Richard  mentioned that the tattoo was really painful. You gotta suffer if you love Firestorm! :)

Gerry Conway Interview Needs Your Support

Match-heads… PLEASE help support this Kickstarter project! I’m dying to see this interview!

Gerry Conway, co-creator of Firestorm, recently recorded a 3 and 1/2 hour video interview discussing his entire career, how he got into comics, plus the inner workings and what happens behind the scenes of DC comics and Marvel comics! Roger Priebe, the man who conducted the interview and a fellow Match-head, has created a Kickstarter campaign to help pay for the DVDs to be printed.
