Uh-oh, I think Firestorm is going to explode.. literally!

Uh-oh… I’m afraid Firestorm is about to become a living Weapon of Mass Destruction. Maybe I’m seeing things that aren’t there, but while reviewing upcoming DC Comics solicitations I found myself saying, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” To be fair this is all pure speculation, but if you read the solicitations you might just agree with me. Check out below the promo copy for Forever Evil #5 and Justice League of America #12. Then scroll further down further for my thoughts…

A devastating battle against Despero begins as Manhunter and Stargirl arrive in San Francisco to save Stargirl’s family from Firestorm’s fallout!

Put these two solicitations together and I think Firestorm just might explode in the coming months.. literally!

  • In Forever Evil #5, “… Lex Luthor and his Injustice League raid the stronghold of the Crime Syndicate with consequences so devastating, the DC Universe will never be the same!
  • And then 3 weeks later in JLA #12, “… Manhunter and Stargirl arrive in San Francisco to save Stargirl’s family from Firestorm’s fallout!

We already know the Crime Syndicate is holding Firestorm somewhere; their stronghold seems like a reasonable place. Firestorm’s powers seem pretty unstable at the moment given what happened to him in Forever Evil #3. Then the big clue comes in the JLA #12 solicitation, “… Firestorm’s fallout!” Fallout?!?! That implies the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. Couple that with the promo copy in Forever Evil #5 and I’m envisioning Firestorm going critical and exploding, thus destroying part of San Francisco and irradiating the town!

If I’m right, I just hope it plays out better than Marvel’s New Universe The Pitt. Also, what does DC Comics have against the west coast? California was a target in Superman: The Motion Picture; Coast City in “Death of Superman”; and San Diego in Aquaman’s “Sub-Diego” storyline. With DC’s offices moving out west, I’d be careful. Just sayin’.

What do you think? Is my speculation a step too far? Or might I be on to something?

I don’t think you’re reading too much into it. After all, wasn’t this where the character was heading at the end of Brightest Day as well?

Ronnie with all those deaths on his hands? I don’t have a very good feeling about this either.

  2. Bill Powell says:

All of which could lead to the Firestorm Power being transferred to a new body.. (New series) Please.. Maybe… ok maybe not but one could hope..

  3. And again, this most powerful hero is a frickin’ PAWN in the chess set?

  4. Martin Stein Returns says:

I thought if Firestorm blows up, all of existence goes with him?

  5. Michael says:

Well, Martin Stein Returns yeah but all of existence sans Ronnie and Jason. Figure they’ll find a way to tweak that but what happens when the Big Bang spark explodes?
