FIRE AND WATER PODCAST Episode 36 – The Phantom Stranger

Firestorm, Aquaman, and the Phantom Stranger: The Fire and Water PodcastThe 36th episode of THE FIRE AND WATER PODCAST is now available for your listening pleasure! THE FIRE AND WATER PODCAST is the official podcast of FIRESTORM FAN and THE AQUAMAN SHRINE.

Something a little different this week! I was on vacation with my family, so Aqua-rob invited a special guest, Chad Bokelman (of “Corps Conjecture” blog“The LanternCast” podcast/blog, and “Ragman: DC’s Tatterdemalion of Justice” blog). Rob and Chad discuss the history of one of their favorite DC Comics characters, The Phantom Stranger! Plus they take a few potshots at me.  Nice fellas, real nice.

You can find the 36th episode of THE FIRE AND WATER PODCAST on iTunes. While you’re there, please drop us a review on the iTunes page. Every comment helps! As always, thanks to my co-host Rob Kelly, Sea King of THE AQUAMAN SHRINE and I AM THE PHANTOM STRANGER, for doing all the post-production on these episodes! Sorry about that. I couldn’t get Chad to shut up so we ran out of time!

  2. Siskoid says:

Chad/Shag… the difference was respect for Rob.

Chad: The Superman team-up in Action wasn’t following up on an older story. Just Byrne starting in medias res.

Good ‘cast! Your opinions mirror mine on both the landmark Secret Origins issue and the new series. Mr. DiDio should know that “it will all make sense” won’t matter if readers abandon the book before it does. We’ll see.

Just listened to the first few minutes, and so far, Chad is a good fill in. But is he pronouncing Corps “corpse”? I always thought it was pronounced “core” unless you were French or something like that?

Ah what do I know? 😉

  4. Siskoid says:

    It’s “core” in French too.

  5. I figured someone would pick up on that Sean. Yeah, nerves got the better of me.

Siskoid: Did I disrespect Rob? I apologize. It absolutely wasn’t my intention.

I think the only thing I screwed up on big time was talking negative a little TOO much about about the ‘Green Lantern/Plastic Man’ team up issue. I re-listened to the episode and I could PLAINLY hear the hesitation in Robs voice. Apologies that I didn’t pick up on that in the moment and change the subject. Got a little too comfortable in the conversation and forgot I was a guest on someone ELSE’S show and not on my home turf.

  6. Siskoid says:

Hahaha, no Chad, you didn’t disrespect Rob. SHAG disrespects Rob. All in good fun, of course.

But you were totally right that the art was a strange fit for a Plastic Man story. Who says the guest host can’t do a lot of talking?

  7. Keith Samra says:

I havnt finished listening to the episode yet, but I really hope you guys mentioned when Mark Waid thought it was a good idea to make the Phantom Stranger Superman and Wonder Woman’s love child in The Kingdom.

Oh and Shagg, you were very missed… In the 5 minutes I have listened to so far!

    Er…

  9. We might have to do that “Fandom Stranger” podcast after all Rob! lol

  10. Sean Koury says:

@Siskoid yeah, I know. I was just trying to make Chad feel better. 😉
