Go read THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #2

Quit goofing around on the internet.  Go read The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #2!

We’ll talk later.  There’s lots to discuss.

Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #2 cover by Ethan Van Sciver

Check this out, in the 34 years Cliff Carmichael has been around, today’s issue is only the fourth time he’s ever made the cover. The first was The Fury of Firestorm #1 (June 1982), the second was Suicide Squad #48 (Dec. 1990), and the third was Firestorm #13 (June 2004). That’s it! The more you know…

While you’re thinking about Firestorm, check out who is saying what…

  1. ah, feels good to have a monthly firestorm book again. I also saw a lot of people picking it up at my local comic shop today…i may have forced it on some but what can you do!

I may not be able to pick it up til Friday. Boo to responsibilities!

  3. Rhett16 says:

I gave it a really quick glance over basically, which is all I had time for tonight unfortunately. So maybe this will be made clearer to me on a second reading tomorrow, but in case it isn’t I have to ask…why do Ronnie and Jason both have to actually say “Firestorm”? That aspect is a little bit too “Wonder Twins-y” for me, and Ronnie didn’t have to say it in the first issue, did he?

Anyway, I do like what they are doing so far with the Fury character, it will be interesting to see exactly how powerful he is and who or what exactly controls him.

All in all another solid effort!

I just read issue #2 this morning and I liked it. In fact, I like it more than the first issue. It feels tighter and the pacing is stronger. I like the Ronnie/Jason dynamic.

However, something was bugging me in issue #1 and I realize now what it is. I don’t care about the villains in this book so far. Dog Team and now Hyena Team: I don’t like these guys, and not in the they’re-evil-bastards-I-shouldn’t-like-them kind of way, but the nothing-compelling-or-interesting kind of way. If these black ops mercenaries are going to be a regular threat for the Nuclear Men, then Simone and Van Sciver are going to have to pull some serious magic tricks to make me care about Carmichael and Zither and what their whole agenda is.

Still, I enjoyed it and I’m sticking with it for issue #3, which is more than I can say for the atrociously disappointing SAVAGE HAWKMAN.

Sadly I flat out hate the Scripting for the new firestorm.. The art is amazing but how do the guys even know how to use their powers. Why is Ronnie not freaked out more. The writing is so disjointed that I can barely stand to read it..

The best way I can describe the problem I have it they are trying to force feed me information without any real development.. The dialog is there but it does not forward the story in any meaningful way. Really just the style of writing is wrong, but the concept is solid,

I agree with some of these comments, but not all.

I thought the pacing of this issue was better than the first. The art work, despite the washout error, is nice.

I like the take on the “Hyena Team”–I like the idea of drugged up, laughing mercs for some reason…

I hate the “Shazam” notion of becoming “firestorm”–just silly. I hope this goes away soon.

Ronnie and Jason are both over-the-top for me. Jason too calm. Ronnie too full of panic–though I’m projecting here. I like the free-wheeling Ronnie of old. (The one who just thought being Firestorm was cool).

Don’t like the whole terrorist thing. Do like all the violence.

Wasn’t surprised the teenagers overslept though–don’t blame it on the “firestorm effect”–teenagers always over-sleep.

    Well, for what it’s worth… that’s it.
