Ethan Van Sciver has been posting some Firestorm-related artwork on his Facebook account recently. Check out these super-cool drawings of Ronnie from THE FURY OF FIRESTORM: THE NUCLEAR MEN! You get a really good look at Ronnie’s costume in the drawing below.
Below is the same shot again, but close-up on the face. Stunning line work by Ethan!
Below is a neat shot of Ronnie in mid-transformation. Click the image to enlarge.
I gotta say, Ronnie looks fantastic! I’m digging Ronnie as a teenager again! Yildiray Cinar is doing the interiors of the book, so I’m guessing the art above was either character studies or commissions.
This drawing below has me scratching my head. Ronnie, Jason, and Fury are clearly featured, but in what capacity? Is that writing in Russian? Hmmm… It’s got me wondering. Also, if this is Russian, maybe we’ll meet The New 52 version of Mikhail Arkadin!
Finally, below is an early character study of Ronnie for the new book. It was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con during “DC Comics: Designing the New 52″ panel. If you compare the drawing below to drawings above, you’ll see the costume has been changed some. Click the image below to enlarge.
Gorgeous artwork by Ethan Van Sciver! I can’t wait to see more!
Support Firestorm! Fan the flame!
While I’m getting the first book and trying to keep an open mind, I’m just not feeling it with the new stuff I’ve seen. It just hasn’t gotten me excited at all…and I’m hoping that’ll change once I get the book in hand and get to read it and see what’s going on in this revamped version of Firestorm.
I like the work. I’m just not keen on that whole Clockwork Orange eyeliner thing going on there with the pointy things under his eyes.
Ugh these are the exact things i was hoping to see at fan expo, would have loved to pick his brain…next time!!!
Good to see they kept the loose armsleeves… missing the pointy shoulders!
I’ve really, really enjoyed Ethan Van Sciver’s interiors on books like Green Lantern: Rebirth and Flash: Rebirth. However, I haven’t been wowed by the last couple variant covers he has drawn for other books and I’m not crazy about the covers I’ve seen for the new Firestorm book. However however, I love his status as “idea man/story-world-builder” because he excels at that better than most of the writers on the new 52. And because Yildiray Cinar’s pencils did wow me in the issues of Legion of Super-Heroes I flipped through, and because Gail Simone is a rock star, I am really looking forward to this book.
Beautiful work, Ethan! I love your line. Silky smooth. Also great use of light/dark contrast and composition— the costume is busy in some places, minimalist in others. Very nice.
