Aurrera is the house brand for “Bodega Aurrerá”, a chain of Mexican discount stores owned by Walmart. Essentially this ice cream is the Mexican equivalent of Walmart’s “Great Value” brand. This is the only evidence I’ve found online of the promotional partnership between Aurrera and DC Comics. My thanks to megacityfour over on Instagram for this info!

So, the guy with flaming hair is pimping ice cream? And the Justice League is represented by Firestorm and the Cheetah? What, did Superman and Batman have the day off? Wouldn’t the character of Vibe have made a little more sense? Oh well, we Match-heads will happily take the exposure for the Nuclear Man!

No kidding, this product was produced in Argentina and distributed as part of the Super Amigos line.  Our good buddy Jon from the Fizzit blog sent us pictures of his own cube.  He included the teeny-tiny Action League characters to provide a sense of scale.  This is a small cube!

Below is a photo of the exterior package.  The cube is identified as a “Skill Game” and “Rubik’s Cube with Your Favorite Characters”.

Below are the contents of the package.  You have to assemble the cube yourself and put on the stickers.

Support Firestorm El Hombre Nuclear! Fan the flame!

Our good buddy Jon at the Fizzit Firestorm-themed blog made an fascinating discovery recently.  He bought some Superman comics translated into Arabic for a friend who’s learning the language.  As he was flipping through a comic he purchased and stumbled across Firestorm!  Arabic Superman #703 (1992) featured a reprint and translation of Action Comics #666 (1991).  Below you’ll find the Arabic cover, followed by the original American cover.

The Elemental Firestorm appeared on two interior pages.  The interesting part is that Arabic reads right to left.  Therefore all the pages are flipped to their mirror-image, and the back page is the start (exactly like manga, if you’re at all familiar with that).   Below you’ll find the Arabic Superman pages in black and white, followed by the corresponding American pages in color.

I wonder if reversing the art caused any problems for the readers.  For example, if you look above you’ll notice Superman’s “S” shield is reversed.  Now the Arabic language doesn’t even feature our version of the letter “S”, so it’s probably a non-issue.  However, I can’t help wondering.  By the way, this entire issue was a sort of dream/trance sequence, so Firestorm appearance was just imagined by Superman.

Near as I can figure there were only five issues of Superman’s Freunde and each featured a different hero, so this may have been the only appearance by Firestorm in the series.

Our good friend Jon over at the Fizzit Firestorm-themed blog sent scans of these unique Firestorm collectibles. He received the following cards from Argentina.  The majority of these come from the Spanish-language version of Kenner’s Super Powers line, Super Amigos.

This first one is a trading card from the Super Amigos game.  To see all the cards in the Super Amigos card set, please visit the Aquaman Shrine by clicking here.

The next five are stickers associated with the Super Amigos line.  It appears these were produced from 1985 through 1987.

This last sticker uses specialized ink that really is intended to be viewed under blacklight.

These next ones come from some Superman-related set.  This set was released in 1994.  Nice to see the Elemental Firestorm getting some merchandise action!

Here are some Firestorm stickers from that same 1994 Superman series.

These next two come from a set entitled “Cartas de Poder – DC Super Heroes”.  I really don’t know anything about these sets, but I love that they called Firestorm “el hombre nuclear”.  Also, he’s got an attack of 2,700 and a defense of 2,300!  I have no idea what the scale is, but that sounds impressive!
