This is a bizarre piece of merchandise that I didn’t even know existed until recently! Apparently back in 1982, Pepsi produced a line of soda cans in Greece featuring some of DC Comics heroes! Check out our favorite Nuclear Man!
I’m not sure who drew the image of Firestorm. It looks like a stock image from the 1980s, so maybe Denys Cowan or Ed Hannigan? Maybe someone redrawing a stock image by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez (Praise Be His Name)? Anyone care to hazard a guess?
In case you are wondering, those Greek letters loosely translate to “Firestorm”. Here are a couple more angles of the can.
I stumbled across this can on eBay a few months back. Unbelievably, it sold for $105.50!! Insane! Someone else tried to sell another can for $62 ($40 plus $22 shipping), but no luck.
Can’t see myself spending this kind of money on a rusty can, but it’s really cool to know it exists!
Support Firestorm! Fan the flame!
The pose reminds me of a Wayne Boring Superman, drawn over by Mike DeCarlo.
And I say DeCarlo because I thought he did some character art for the old Mayfair
DC role playing game, no?
I do believe that is our beloved Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (Praise Be His Name).
DeCarlo DID do some Mayfair stuff, though.
Chris
It was indeed drawn by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (praised be his name) — from page JLA-5-B of the 1982 DC Comics Style Guide.
I believe this was inked by Dick Giordano.

heh that’s funny, I just discovered this myself recently. I was seriously contemplating bidding on that second auction you linked to (yes I’m insane) but the seller ended it early I guess they sold it outside of eBay. Still, I’ve managed to survive the last 33 years without it, I can wait 😉
