Damn, I need to send my comic guy some money so I can get this. Gonna listen to the podcast anyway!
Firestorm in Justice League??? YEAH!!! Had to pause the podcast and come back to post how pumped I am about that.
DAMN!! I thought I had that shirt in the bag! I was positive I was going to win it. Arrrgh!!! Now you’ve done it. I’m going to walk around shirtless until you send me my shirt!!! Believe me, nobody wants that. NO…BOD…Y!!!
I really want to get one of the Pop Funk Hawkman shirts (of which they have like 3 designs). I am posting this primarily as a public service — so Shag can continue to make fun of me in lieu of discussing the monthly Firestorm comic once it is cancelled.
*ba-dum-TSSSH!*
PS: Gold.
Full disclosure: I got laid FAR LESS after I stopped wearing Ghost Rider t-shirts.
DAMN YOU 1990s!!!!!!!
I don’t know if there were blue, but my copy of 2nd edition DCH had the red and yellow, dice I still use today and are among my favorites.
Because nerds have favorite dice*.
*See previous comment about getting laid.
Wouldnt it be awesome if the aircraft carrier that fired the missles, that hit Atlantis, causing the “Throne of Atlantis” storyline, were actually fired at Firestorm during the events of Firestorm #15?
Siskoid, if your taking off your Ghost Rider t-shirts was at about the same time you picked up your favorite dice, I’m not surprised you got laid less. 😉
I really wish PopFunk’s discount was on all their t-shirts, because I would definitely pick up some cool JLA/DCU shirts if they did.
As it is I think I’ll get the “Papa Johns”-like Aquaman logo t-shirt. He delivers!
The reason I’m making a poo poo over not winning the shirt is because of these words over on PopFunk:
“U.S. Shipping Only”
I can’t order one. lol
1. I can’t get a discount on one of those two Martian Manhunter shirts, neither of which I own? Dang! I already bought the best of those Aquaman shirts, and, well, the rest feature Firestorm. Ew.
2. “A cripple?” Jeebus, Shag. I don’t dig the new cover much, especially bald Surfer Captain Atom.
3. So Firestorm is the Vibe of the unspecific nationality Justice League? Another scoop from Rob, who doesn’t even need to be tipsy to spread like it was prom night? Say, I was way past tipsy while listening, passed out, dreamed about a vampiric African American female descendant of Hunter S. Thompson working at a high school, woke up slightly buzzed a couple of hours later, and went back to listening to the podcast while reading/formatting the new DC solicits for a couple of my blogs and working my way further down the bottle. Vodka fuels my engine! BEST EPISODE EVER! Nice podcast, too.
4. Just looked at the solicits for Aquaman #19. Remember when it was the best drawn book in comics? That was nice while it lasted. I’ll also argue with Shag that the new Firestorm gauntlets suck even worse than the Killer Frost redesign. Pirate sleeves or GTFO.
5. Thanks to the April wave of Puerto Rican power, I’ll likely buy JLofA, JLofA’s Vibe, Savage Hawkman, and Catwoman. How manny books ‘chu buyin’, Rob? Who’s stuck in the ’90s now, esse? Don’chu know I’m loco?
6. Least Firestorm-centric Firestorm-centric clip ever! Is Walter a special guest?
7. I am Alpha. I am Omega. I am Comment Board Pejorative. Personally, I like Bronze Age Hawkman, but in all honesty, I’m still waiting for “the” Hawkman incarnation. Hasn’t happened yet.
8. I should have tried the Hawkeye trade, but I felt burned going two trades deep into the massively overpraised Mark Waid Daredevil. Thirty bucks worth of meh there.
9. I liked Dale Gunn more than most of the actual Detroit Leaguers. I’m seriously more excited about his appearance in Vibe than I am about Vibe himself.
10. I don’t have issues with the comments on any of my blogs, because Rob is much, much, much, much, much, much, much more popular than me. I actually typed out each of those “much”es just to emphasize that fact, and because I have the free time from being much, much, much, much, much, much, much less popular than Rob. Thankfully, I can take solace in not running a Firestorm blog. Yeesh. Barrel, scraped.
11. Re: “Vibe from Frank.” See comment #10.
12. I’m Hoffman with regard to revisiting the disastrous and perpetually unfinished “DC Challenge” blog crossover. I wince every time it comes up, so of course friggin’ Shag always seems to link to it as a “see also” post. Blessedly, no one in the history of the internet has ever clicked on one of those types of links that doesn’t involve breasts in some fashion.
13. If Rob would get his damned comic into print so I can read the art form in its proper pulpy medium, that would be one more indie to get my dollars.
14. Joe Slab. Count Drunkula. Booze Brothers. Worked my way back to full on sauced across the podcast post-pause (plus I’m getting near the licensed/Vertigo solicits.) Getting trickier to type. Back button = friend. 70 proof plus or puffy nuclear sleeves. Wait…
15. Had to take a bathroom break, and read 47 Ronin #1. I expected it to be much brisker than it was. The line “Mother… mother” made me think of a Tracy Bonham song that is probably older than Chad Bokelman. Killed the McCormick Vanilla. On to Rain Organics and pre-spiked discounted “egg nog.” I can’t feel my nose. I used to subscribe at a flea market shop where a girl who kind of looked like Tracy Bonham worked. Mmm. Oversharing?
16. Hungry. Time for Angel Hair Parmesan and Chicken of the Sea. Trying to finish a copy of V/H/S. Anyone who recommends it to you is not your friend and means you harm. Consider punching them in the throat. What was this podcast about again?
17. Hey. Shirtless Sean Koury. How you doin’? Can you play a violin while singing quasi-grunge? No? Oh. Okay. Put a shirt on then. Don’t advertise what you ain’t selling.
18. Wasn’t Darkseid on the Mayfair dice? I still have some in a box somewhere.
19. Thanks for the kind words from Oscar Ooo-La-La. You wearing a shirt?
20. I’ve heard of Daphne Zuniga. Put your shirts back on, boys. Anyone have a copy of Last Rites on Blu-Ray?
21. firestorm aquaMAN THEYU M,AKE A SU[PERTE PAIR. AQAUA,MAM FIORESTYORM ZSUPERGFRIENDSS FOREVER, YEah/.
Okay Frank. I’ll put my shirt back on. Since I can’t play the violin. I was getting cold anyway. lol
@Frank, if you’re still waiting for the definitive Hawkman take, I think it’s time to hang that particular hat back on the rack and let it go.
At this point the character has been around for 70 years and had 3.5 massive, tear-it-down-and-rebuild transformations over that period, plus countless tweaks, adjustments, and niggles. I don’t see the character being completely overhauled again in our lifetimes.
But hey! Savage Hawkman is getting a toy! Wooo!
@Siskoid, I’ll see your Ghost Rider shirt and raise you two Venom shirts. Because I too got laid a lot less after I stopped wearing them, at least for a solid 3.5 year stretch.
(Keep in mind that I did not stop wearing them by choice, but that I wore them so much that they were becoming indecent.)
Luke, two words on the likelihood of another top-to-bottom overhaul: New 52. The previous status quo only lasted the length of Brightest Day, and we have a different continuity already. If anything, I expect more radically altered Hawkmen at an ever faster clip until something truly sticks.
Frank, the “.5″ of that 3.5 is the New 52. It’s not a top to bottom overhaul in the same sense that the Silver Age and Hawkworld versions were. It picks and chooses what has come before and adds a few new wrinkles and ultimately is not that different from things which had come before.
Any new variants of Hawkman are going to be variations on existing archtypes of the character; we’re never going to get something on the order of what Fox did in The Brave & The Bold or what Truman did in Hawkworld. That’s my take on it anyway.
And now lest Shag start making fun of me again I’ll try not to talk more about Hawkman.
There’s so much to respond to in Frank’s screed, but I wanted to focus on this:
13. If Rob would get his damned comic into print so I can read the art form in its proper pulpy medium, that would be one more indie to get my dollars.
IT WAS IN PRINT FOR THE LATTER HALF OF 2012, dirty dingus magee! You had your chance and now both editions are sold out. We’ll be doing a second printing, but I’m guessing you’ll not buy those, then complain and not being able to get them once they sell out too. Sheesh.
You know, I heard someone on some other comic book podcast poo-poo Dan Jurgens today. I won’t stand for it. Just look at this beautiful cover. I love love love his take on Captain Atom, I just wish he hadn’t killed him off like that. Shag, you and Rob are an inspiration to me and I thank you for this podcast and that other one you guys do.
Luke, the CW just turned DC’s womanizing bleeding heart liberal loudmouth into Chris Nolan’s Batman. You don’t think the first thought in a Hawkman adaptation would be trading out the wings for a back tattoo and making him a South American Marxist rebel to tap the growing Latin audience? Watch for “Halcón” in their 2015 upfronts.
Rob, you can’t lay claim to a legitimate print run on Ace Ventura if you sell it out of a Honda Hatchback in the parking lot of an antique mall in Newark. Diamond Previews or get Daphne Zuniga in puffy sleeves. Wait, that’s a great idea for an Ace Hardware variant cover! Works for Zenescope! But maybe you should use Loni Anderson instead, in keeping with the Stroker Ace theme? Or both! “Comics” means never having to say you’re sorry for unauthorized celebrity licenses, unless you’re Jackson Guice.
Warning: Any attempt to correct me will lead to Styx references. Domo arigato, Mr. Robb-otto.
“Likenesses.” Joke = Ruined!

They have something now called THE INTERNET Frank, which can be used to buy goods and services. Maybe in whatever in-bred backwater podunk burg you live in doesn’t get it, but you can avail yourself of it at your local library. (BTW, a “library” is big building that has these things called books.)
You can insult me, my poor podcasting skills, Aquaman, whatever. Diss Ace Kilroy and SHIT GETS REAL.
ACE KILROY! KILROY! KILROY! kilroy…
Shagg I took your advice and checked out Hawkeye… I couldnt get passed the UGLY ASS artwork! Sorry, just not for me!
If the art sux, I find it hard to get invested… Paul Pelletier better bring his A game!
Frank’s mega feedback was purely magical.
Wow. Thanks, man. I needed that.
