Finally, here is a pin-up by Rafael Kayanan and Romeo Tanghal featuring Firestorm at the mercy of Byte. This pin-up has been featured previously here on FIRESTORM FAN.
Okay let’s face it, these guys don’t really rate as top-notch rogues. However, they were an interesting concept and looked pretty cool, so I couldn’t resist. In fact, I’d say the concept of computer foes names Bug & Byte is ripe for revamping and reintroducing! Maybe nowadays they’d be called Malware & Megabyte! Something like that.
Support Firestorm! Fan the flame!
Ha ha ha – “…can become part of any computer system he can reach by phone line!”
What? Connect my computer to a telephone? You mean like my cell phone? I don’t understand. Why? I mean, wouldn’t that just slow down my data transfer and be clunky?
😉 Boy if we only knew then what we have now!
An awesome pair of very 80s badguys.
These two were way ahead of there time, DC had created a few such villains with computer motifs like this but these two to my mind were by far the most interesting. Gerry Conway had a real gift for creating memorable villains and Firestorm at this time had one of the best rogues galleries in comics, Bug & Byte didn’t take off strangely but those two issues they appeared in have two of the most memorable covers seen on the racks. I can still remember #23 being in basically everyNews/book shop and this post of yours brings back great memories of that era. Comics were everywhere back then and Firestorm was possibly my favorite hero – and I read a *lot* of books back then..
Cheers for a nice trip down memory lane…..
I always thought it was funny their father was named Frank Bonner. It always made me think they were raised by Herb Tarlek of WKRP in Cincinnati.
