We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash. You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.

I’m not sure how much similarity we’ll see between the TV version of Deathstorm and the two comic versions we’ve met previously. Personally, I’m hoping if there are any similarities he’s more like the second comic incarnation of Deathstorm (from the Crime Syndicate). I’ve previously outlined my concerns about the first Deathstorm incarnation.

Also, according to the EW article, on Earth-Two Ronnie and Caitlin are still a couple! If you’ve been watching previews for The Flash, then you know the Earth-Two version of Ronnie’s former wife, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), is actually Killer Frost! In case you are wondering about Robbie Amell and this new version of Firestorm…

EW.com recently published an interview with Andrew Kreisberg, The Flash Executive Producer, where he addressed the death of Ronnie Raymond:

Part of the decision was Robbie’s burgeoning film career. He’s on his way to being a very big star, which he completely deserves both professionally and personally. We didn’t want to stand in the way of that. As always, sometimes those tough decisions yield the best storytelling because obviously Ronnie’s death has a major impact on all the characters, Barry, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Professor Stein. It also gave us a lot of our storytelling as we move forward. Everyone knows there’s a second spin-off coming with Legends of Tomorrow. They know the Firestorm legacy is far from over, so it just gave us a lot of rich storytelling to pursue.

Robbie recently posted the photo below on Instagram and said, “Firestorm is in great hands. But I’ll be back”

Last week Zap2it.com published an interview with Andrew Kreisberg that got me excited about the introduction of Jefferson “Jax” Jackson. Below are some relevant quotes explaining this new version of Firestorm will be more like the comic version! Hooray!

When deciding to give Dr. Stein another second half, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explains how the team wanted the new Firestorm to be different from Ronnie but inevitably closer in resemblance to the comic book lighthearted spirit of the character.

“In the comic books Ronnie was like a dumb jock. Obviously, Robbie and the character that we created for our Ronnie was obviously an engineer and was more mature and has a girlfriend. He was more of an adult,” Kreisberg explains to Zap2it and a group of journalists at an episode preview event. “The idea of a second firestorm being somebody who was just in his early 20s and somebody who was radically different from [Robbie’s] Firestorm.”

That’s not to say that Jax is a dumb jock — he had a 4.0 GPA in high school, but his lack of science background creates a fun dichotomy between him and Dr. Stein that more closely resembles the chemistry between the scientist and Ronnie in the comic books.

FIRESTORM FAN meets TV’s FIRESTORM!

Robbie Amell (who portrays Ronnie Raymond & Firestorm on CW’s The Flash) was a guest at the con this year! On Friday, I caught the panel he shared with John Wesley Shipp. They had great chemistry, making for a fun hour! Then, I was fortunate to meet Robbie himself! It was a quick photo-op, but he took the time to compliment my shirt!

Next, I visited with Robbie at “The Walk of Fame” and got his autograph. We had the opportunity to chat one-on-one for a few minutes. I mentioned FIRESTORM FAN.com and he expressed his appreciation to all the Firestorm fans for their support! Such a nice guy!

FIRESTORM FAN meets TV’s KILLER FROST!

On Saturday afternoon, I visited with Danielle Panabaker (who portrays Caitlin Snow, and someday Killer Frost, on CW’s The Flash)! Such a nice lady!! We chatted one-on-one for a few minutes about my nine-year-old daughter who idolizes her character. Later that night, Danielle sent me a thoughtful Tweet suggesting I bring my daughter to meet her next time!

To be completely honest, that Tweet was the highlight of the entire convention for me. My kids mean everything to me. Seven hours later, and after meeting hundreds of other folks that day, Danielle still remembered my daughter’s name and took the time to send a message about her. I can’t express how happy that made me! Such a fantastic lady!! When I told my daughter she was absolutely ecstatic!

FIRESTORM COSPLAY!

While waiting in line for Robbie Amell, I met Firestorm cosplayer John Penland! John built this replica of the quantum splicer himself, using some direction from folks working on the actual show! Later in the convention, John gave his replica splicer to Robbie Amell! Very thoughtful gift! Be sure to check out John’s cosplay page over on Facebook!

Later I met Killer Frost cosplayer Brandy Gibson! She was cosplaying Killer Frost as the character appeared on the animated DVD, Batman: Assault on Arkham! Follow Brandy’s cosplay over on Facebook!

Finally, I came across this unique Firestorm cosplay, seen here with Vixen! His uniform is an interesting design that I don’t recognize. There is a hint of Superman’s “S Shield” behind the atomic insignia. Fascinating outfit! I didn’t catch the gentleman’s name, so if anyone can identify this person (or the origin of his costume) please let me know!

UPDATE: Our mysterious Firestorm cosplayer has been identified as Larry Mccalister! Thanks to my buddy, Charles D. Allen for making the identification!

While this might not seem like an overwhelming amount of Firestorm, it’s about 1,000% more than I usually find at Dragon Con!

Why No Robbie Amell on Legends of Tomorrow?

According to Victor Garber, who plays Martin Stein (and one half of Firestorm) for The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, you’ll find out what’s going on with Ronnie Raymond in the season premiere of The Flash on October 6.  [Entertainment Weekly online]

Will Jay Jackson join Professor Stein to become Firestorm?

At San Diego Comic-Con, Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Phil Klemmer seemingly confirmed Jay Jackson’s part in Firestorm by saying Jackson is “probably the last person Professor Stein (Victor Garber) wants to share Firestorm with.”  [ComicBook.com]

What we do know is Franz Drameh is playing Jay Jackson, a former high school athlete, whose pro-career was derailed by injury. Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew.

Speculation is that Jay Jackson is a stand-in for the comic character Jason Rusch. Legends of Tomorrow writers may be avoiding the name “Jason Rusch” since a character named that was introduced in the previous season of The Flash. Folks are also speculating that Ronnie Raymond will die in The Flash season premiere, causing Caitlin Snow emotional turmoil resulting in her becoming Killer Frost.

Sorry for the delay in getting this news to you folks. I was on the road for a week (hence the lack of posts here). My thanks to the numerous folks who shared these news stories with me. Y’all are the best!

Robbie Amell did an interview with Comic Book Resources in which he talked about a scene that was cut from the season finale. Check it out!

CBR News: In “Fallout,” Ronnie and Prof. Stein left Central City to learn about their abilities. In what ways do you feel they had a better handle on their powers when you returned to deal with Reverse-Flash?

Robbie Amell: In the finale, you were going to see a scene where Caitlin and I are talking. I tell her, we do have a better handle on our powers, [and] I show her a new trick. They introduced matter manipulation in the finale — but the finale was also thirty minutes too long, because it’s such a huge, incredible episode, [the scene] was one of the things that could go. You won’t see it, but originally I turn a thermometer into a flower for her. It was a very sweet scene that showed some matter manipulation. Maybe they will release it on the DVD/Blu-ray set.

While we were away, we’ve just become more comfortable with our abilities. At the end of the other episode, when we flew away, as long as we accepted the transformation and we were both on board, it went a lot smoother. In the finale, there was going to be a scene when we turn into Firestorm. We literally step towards each other and turn into him. There isn’t any difficulty. And, now, we get to do matter manipulation — but nobody gets to see it yet.

Wow! While it didn’t appear in this episode, at least we know Firestorm will be displaying his trademark Matter Manipulation powers on future episodes of DC TV! And my streak of being COMPLETELY WRONG remains unbroken in my speculation of what the future holds for Firestorm on TV! I was convinced they wouldn’t give him matter manipulation powers on TV (then again, months ago I was convinced Firestorm would never appear in live action either).

Also, during the interview CRB asked about Robbie about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow…

CBR News: The “Legends of Tomorrow” promo features Firestorm and Prof. Stein, but Ronnie is notably absent. How much of that is explained in “The Flash” finale as opposed to the series?

Robbie Amell: You think more would be explained in the finale, but it’s not. I can’t tell you anything about “Legends of Tomorrow” other than it’s going to be incredible. I can tell you that I will be in Season Two of “The Flash.”

Cryptic, but more Robbie Amell/Victor Garber Firestorm is in our future!

Quite a bit more information about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has been released. Here are a few points I thought you Match-heads might want to know:

• The series will premiere in January 2016, and will run for 13 episodes. It’s being described as a, “big 13 hour long mega movie“. Given it’s status as a mid-season event, you gotta wonder if The Flash or Arrow will take a 13 week break while this series airs.
• The new scenes in the Legends of Tomorrow trailer were filmed specifically for the trailer.  They have not filmed a pilot yet, so it’s possible those scenes might not even make it into the final show.
• During an interview with Screen Rant, Legends of Tomorrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim said this when asked about Firestorm, “I will say Victor Garber, who plays Martin Stein, is a part of the spinoff… and we wouldn’t have Martin Stein on the show if there wasn’t going to be some Firestorm.”

Finally, all along I’ve been calling DC’s Legends of Tomorrow by it’s proper name, “Firestorm and his Atomic Friends.” Now Xum Yukinori, friend to the Fire & Water Podcast, has stepped up and produced an appropriate theme song for the new series. We know from casting announcements that Victor Garber will be a regular cast member of Legends of Tomorrow as Professor Martin Stein. We also know that Robbie Amell will NOT be a member of the cast. In fact, current speculation is that Ronnie Raymond will die in the season finale of The Flash. This speculation is being driven by Robbie Amell’s absence in Legends of Tomorrow, and the description of The Flash season finale as, “heartbreaking.”

So what’s up with Firestorm in Legends of Tomorrow (LOT) trailer? Here are my thoughts:

• Some of the Firestorm shots are repurposed from previous episodes of The Flash.
• The new footage of Firestorm very carefully avoids showing you Firestorm’s face. This avoidance could be purposeful if it turns out that Professor Stein fuses with someone other than Ronnie Raymond to create Firestorm. The folks behind the show would want to avoid spoiling that plot point in the trailer.
• Rip Hunter implies that some of the team may die. So perhaps Ronnie Raymond doesn’t die in The Flash season finale, but instead appears in the LOT pilot (including the new scenes in this trailer), and then dies during the LOT pilot. This would require very careful camera work to avoid showing Ronnie Raymond up close since Robbie Amell isn’t in the show. We know from interviews that the special effects gurus who work on The Flash have a digital version of Robbie Amell for the Firestorm scenes.  They could just use the digital Robbie Amell from a distance for Firestorm in LOT.
• Maybe Ronnie Raymond doesn’t die in The Flash season finale, and will make very infrequent guest-appearances in the LOT series. Again, these could be carefully filmed to avoid showing Ronnie Raymond up close

Regardless what happens with Firestorm and Ronnie Raymond, we will definitely be getting a weekly dose of Professor Martin Stein! And if this trailer is anything to go by, he’s going to be pretty snarky and funny!

So excited!  Can’t wait for 2016!!
