Finally, Keith was incredibly thorough and searched the game for numerous other characters. Sadly, here is a list of characters that didn’t make it into the game: Typhoon, Hyena, Professor Martin Stein, Doreen Day, Cliff Carmichael, Gehenna, Pozhar, Bug & Byte, Tokamak, Silver Deer, Mindboggler, Goldenrod, Moonbow, Shadowstorm, Shoe Shine, Power Company, Stalnoivolk, Weasel, and most disappointing is… Slipknot.

Again, our thanks to Keith for sending all these great screenshots!

One of the nice artistic touches in the current Fury of Firestorm series is the word balloons. Each of the Firestorm protocol characters has their own distinctive-looking word balloon. I asked the folks at Hi-Fi Colour Design who developed these unique looks. Here was their response:

Pre-2000 this was the colorist domain at DC. Today it is all the letterer! Hooray for them being able to bring more of their unique talents to each and every story. Comics really are a collaborative medium.

Therefore, looks like we’ve got Letterer Travis Lanham to thank for these cool artistic additions to the series! Below I’ve highlighted a few panels by Yildiray Cinar to demonstrate these unique word balloons.

Ronnie Raymond – red word balloons, yellow outline and yellow letters

Jason Rusch – yellow word balloon, red outline and red letters
Firehawk – white word balloon, red outline and red letters
Hurricane – black word balloon, yellow outline and yellow letters

Pozhar – white word balloon, red shaky outline and red letters
Rakshasi – violet word balloon, red outline and white letters

Fury – black word balloon, shaky red outline and white shaky letters

Recently I’ve been posting some sketches here from Fury of Firestorm artist Yildiray Cinar. Today we’re going to look at some more sketches, this time of the international Firestorms! Luckily for us, Yildiray has been kind enough to post his beautiful sketches on Twitter and Tumblr. Thanks, Yildiray!

Below is a character study of Firehawk, the French Firestorm, posted to Yildiray’s Tumblr! I really dig the hair and wings!

When Yildiray posted this to Twitter, he described it as a “doodle”. Geez, that’s an amazing doodle!

Below is another Pozhar sketch! This one was done as a warm-up exercise and posted to Tumblr.

Below you’ll find Yildiray’s design for the British Firestorm, Hurricane! This one was posted to Tumblr.

Below is Yildiray’s design for the rogue Firestorm protocols! I LOVE this design! One of my favorite Firestorms! This one was also posted to Tumblr.

Below is a character study of Rakshasi, the Firestorm of India, premiering in The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #10 in June. This was posted to Twitter.

Finally, not an international Firestorm, but still a gorgeous drawing with an international flavor – Justice League International! Yildiray drew this as a warm-up to prepare for the Firestorm/JLI crossover and posted it to Tumblr.

Awesome artwork! I can’t wait to see Yildiray Cinar’s art in the next issue of The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men!

Support Firestorm (and Yildiray Cinar)! Fan the flame!

** UPDATED **

Here you’ll find a brief guide to each of the New 52 Firestorms. These entries will provide you with their name, appearance, country of origin, and perhaps a few other details. I plan to update this guide from time-to-time, so be sure to visit again and look for new content. This guide is intended to be a brief overview, not a complete encyclopedic entry.

It appears that some Firestorms have unique powers, while other Firestorms share similar powers. Some of the more common powers seen across multiple Firestorms include: flight, energy blasts, heat generation, matter transmutation, creation of constructs, and super-strength.

If you’re wondering why there are so many Firestorms, here is the explanation as given by Zithertech Director Candace Zither…

The idea was that every country that had a nuclear program would have a Firestorm, a national defender. A hero with the capabilities of mutually assured destruction. Eliminating the need for defense budgets even the richest of countries could no longer afford. All based on Stein’s Protocols.

OUR HEROES

Code Name: Firestorm

In The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #10, Ronnie was seen wearing a new costume (see below). It appears this new costume and his energy left hand are new manifestations of his powers.

Real Name: Unknown/Not applicable
Country: United States of America
First Appearance: The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #1
Notes: Fury is a being created by the merging of Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch, yet Fury possesses its own independent personality.

Country: United States of America
First Appearance: The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #3
