Great episode! This is yet another series from my youth that I hear great things about but it never passed by my radar until recently. I’m sure if I saw it back then I ignored it because, like Michael, I tended to gravitate towards superhero fare much more than war comics. And definitely when this run started in 1982 or so I was mostly focused on Batman and the like, and I was likely still getting my comics from the local 7-11 or some such place. I think my comic shop days began in earnest around 1984 or 85 when I was 9 or 10 years old.

But the way you fellas described this run really made me interested. I’ll keep my eyes open for it in cheap bins moving ahead. The art on the Tumblr is striking – I know very little about Spiegle’s art but I like what I see there and through web searches. That page where Domino is kicking Blackhawk’s butt is fantastic! Each passing year I gain more appreciation for artists that I tended to overlook back then as too old school or over the hill – Gil Kane, Carmine Infantino, Spiegle, etc. I’m having a lot of fun rediscovering their work through podcasts and blogs like this.

Speaking of Gil Kane, someone on Back Issue’s Facebook group recently shared a cover from this Blackhawk run by Kane and featuring a ridiculously sexy Domino squaring off for a gun fight against Blackhawk. What a great cover!
