  1. Fun episode guys. Thanks for pulling this one together so quickly. As I said on FB, I don’t think I could make it through Monday without Fire & Water.

I’ll admit I’m not as excited as I should be about the DC movie announcement. Very happy to see Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash get their own movies, but I still think having two different Flashes on TV and film is a bit confusing. Momoa’s comments on his Polynesian heritage and Aquaman give the whole thing a unique spin, and I can buy that. I hope Rob is right and we get a nice blend of all eras of Aquaman. One thing’s almost for certain…no Aqua-Bro like on Smallville.

As for Firestorm on TV, I think Ronnie was mentioned as being the structural engineer of the project, which means he isn’t a scientist, which I can swallow a lot easier. I really liked Amell’s earnest performance, and am really looking forward to me. I’m REALLY enjoying this Flash series. Fun, fun stuff…on a super hero TV show? Who’da thunk it?

I can’t believe they have a Cyborg movie scheduled…since Cyborg doesn’t even have his own ongoing series. He’s the only character in the Justice League that didn’t get his own ongoing series when the New 52 launched. It seems like an odd choice for a movie when he isn’t even getting his due in the comics. Obviously the people that actually buy comics make up a small portion of the people who attend the movies, but still odd that they will invest millions into a film when they won’t even try him out on his own comic series for 6 months.

I guess I’m not aware of the problems that SHIELD has had with laying claim to characters vs. the movies, I thought that they’ve included movie characters pretty well. Obviously Colson is a mainstay but they’ve also had Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Sif show up on AoS and they’ve served as great tie-ins to the shared verse. The problem of doing 2 different versions of the same character at the same time is that people are going to gravitate towards one over the other, which can limit the success of the other. Smallville vs. Superman Returns, many people whose exposure to Superman was via Smallville absolutely hated Superman Returns, and were very vocal about it, I can’t help but think that played a role in Returns lackluster performance at the box office. If the Flash TV Show builds a large following, and the movie goes with a different tone or direction, I can see vocal backlash from the TV Show community. Or the reverse could happen, and the Flash TV show is awesome, and could essentially kill the show which at that point could pale in comparison. I still think that a TV Universe that enhances your shared Movie Universe is the way to go over 2 Universes that contradict each other.

The Flash TV Show has been awesome so far, I really dig how the event that creates Flash and Firestorm, is also responsible for creating Multiplex, Weather Wizard, and more. Very cool idea that kind of piggy backs off of Smallville’s take on the kryptonite meteors creating super-powered villains for Clark to fight. Reverse Flash has been awesome so far, I really dig his character as the manipulator pulling the strings. I can’t wait for him to reveal himself and for it to be on like Donkey Kong.

Thanks for finding a way to get an episode churned out despite short time and multiple technical issues!

  3. Okay, I meant to say “and I’m really looking forward to more” in regards to Amell and Firestorm. I got a case of the Mondays!

The only time I’ve been to Californa was for the 2000 San Diego Comic Con, and I faced my own crushing comedown when I returned to the moist armpit of Lucifer that is the Bayou City. I will say though that I visited Jersey in late summer last year, and found it and other regional cities quite pleasant weather-wise before a suffocating wet blanket landed on us upon crossing the Mason-Dixon Line.

I’ve never visited a film studio lot. Sounds swell.

My ability to comment here is blunted by having recorded a multi-episode cycle of reviews for Marvel Super Heroes comparing the DC and Marvel slates that are still in the process of airing. Fortunately, we didn’t really touch on television. I couldn’t overcome my dislike of the Flash concept to watch that show for the promise of Firestorm, but I’ve been recording Arrow for a few months now intending to binge on Ray Palmer/Atom appearances. I found refreshing Stephen Amell’s comments about Grant Gustin’s Flash having exceeded all expectations and still getting stepped on a few episodes into his run by WB announcing an unconnected motion picture. It was, as he put it “$4!++/” of them, and he’s a good man for supporting his fellow actor against probable corporate blowback.
