The Flash has been quite the friend to Firestorm, hosting him when he was between books and now giving him space on his live action television show. I'm sure Shag is ecstatic that television producers have finally sunk deep enough into the barrel to scoop out some Nuclear Man. He even gets his wish for greater proximity to the Atom, with Brandon Routh acknowledging that his screen presence is better aligned with Ray Palmer than Superman. I'm still not going to watch the show, but I might catch some key appearances on Netflix someday. I guess this means my fancasting of Robbie Amell as Steel: The Indestructible Man II is never going to pan out, though.

Couldn't they just light a stunt man's head on fire? Are fire effects all that expensive? They do fire effects in super-hero porn parodies nowadays.

I'd be cool with Aquaman as a monster fighter. Truth to tell, my never to be realized fan revival of Aquaman would have turned it into a dark fantasy series with lots of horror elements. The "Wave of Mutilation" arc would have been a classic. Did I mention that I was going to name the arcs after Pixies songs, because that will never happen either? Man, the duplicitous shape-shifting Sea-Monkey analogues in "Palace of the Brine" would have made the Trench look like Scooby-Doo villains.

Considering Conway wrote the infamous Death of Gwen Stacy, it seems odd he'd have Firestorm save summer with water from an even greater height. He had the Green Goblin gloat she would have been dead even before she hit the water...implying the impact of hitting the water would have killed her too!

I really need to find me some of these "CAL-assic" Firestorm back issues. Firestorm was a book I'd pick up here and there on a whim, but I always enjoyed it.

Should we call the burgeoning DC-TV continuity the "Amelliverse"?

Aquaman fighting monsters is always cool. It could be his own niche in the DCU, if exploited properly.

Another great review show.

Like Shag, I love this cover by Broderick, my favorite of his run on the book.

I think the first year of this Firestorm was very good but like Shag I think the upcoming arc with Ronnie's Dad, Firehawk, and Tokamak is where I really felt the book was firing on all pistons.

I think a letter writer does call Conway on the 'water rescue' in a couple of issues. Poor Summer would be floating 'street pizza'.

And comparing Aquaman to a Harryhausen film is genius. That is what it feels like!
