The high school reunion bit is why you get Jeff Parker to write your comic.

I watched Arrow Season 1 on DVD, and will only watch Season 2 when that comes out on DVD as well, but I did end up enjoying it a lot more than when I sampled the first three eps on original broadcast. Yes, it very much is “all the pretty people”, in fact it’s a lot like Revenge (a LOT), but they soon start to introduce loads of characters from the comics and that’s a joy in and of itself. There’s still some horrendous acting in parts (the actress who plays Huntress is AWFUL), but otherwise fine. The action beats are good, and though it’s very much a post-Longbow Hunters interpretation with real arrows etc, they don’t shy away from trick arrows either.

Firestorm #8’s cover… I thought the problem with the cover would be the hot pink New York.

Rodriguez on Moore makes it seamless with Broderick’s issues. I didn’t even realize at first.

Question: How easy is it to get a lizard in New York? That’s a pretty elaborate prank.

    New Fire & Water YAY!!!
Another fun issue of Aquaman, I’m really excited to see where Parker takes the title, so far he has shown that Aquaman, Mera, and Salty are in good hands!
You could also do the story with Booster Gold!
Oh man! Arrow has been great! As Siskoid mentions, it works much better watching it in chunks, I watched the first season in about 4 days and that was awesome! Season 2 has been much more action packed and watching new episodes each week has been great. Season Two has done a lot of Universe building, they’ve brought in the League of Shadows, Brother Blood, the Flash, and with the great ending to last week’s episode IT IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG between Green Arrow and Deathstroke! They’ve also mentioned Markovia a time or two, so I think Geo-Force and Terra will soon be making an appearance and last week Kord Industries had a pretty big role, so hopefully Blue Beetle is in the wings as well.
So what if they’re in Bikinis, that doesn’t mean it can’t be raining. It could be a warm rain, you can wear swim suits in rain; it’s no different than running through a sprinkler in a swim suit. That being said, this is not my favorite of Broderick’s covers, it’s not awful, just not on the same quality level as his first 7. Typhoon’s proportions are a little wonky looking and man is his red hair out there. It actually looks like he has fire for hair, which just doesn’t go with his water based powers (Ha Fire and Water!). Firestorm also looks like he’d have a pretty sore back after flying in that pose.
I want to punch Cliff right in the face, he is a giant dbag. Is it okay to yell theater in a crowded firehouse? Glad to have you back in the Doreen Day Sucks Club el Presidente Shag. Typhoon’s revenge scene is awesome!!!!

Yes he did have a Star Trek run when both DC and Malibu held the license.

Another great episode featuring 2 great issues! Hats off fellas! Fan the Flame and Ride the Wave!

  3. I really enjoyed Arrow season 1 as well. Yes, it’s pretty people, but few network shows (especially CW) aren’t these days. As much as enjoyed Smallville as a whole, I’m glad Arrow leaves much of the sophomoric romance behind.

I’m behind on Season 2, but DVRing each episode. A catch-up marathon is in order!

Thanks for the Super Mates plug shag!

You guys don’t watch “Arrow”?! I’m shocked! Shocked, I say!

Seriously though, like everyone else is saying, it may have taken a few episodes to find it’s groove, but it really is a fun show! All the Kord Industries references have me eagerly awaiting the arrival of Blue Beetle, or Ted Kord, or both! Seeing the heroes and villains of the DCU brought to life (even if it’s not always the way I’d want…Ace of the Royal Flush gang should have been an android!) and spotting the references to other cities, people, companies from the comics just adds to the enjoyment! Give it another shot guys! All us nuclear subs can’t be wrong!

  5. Sean Koury says:

You guys need to start watching Arrow. It’s awesome! And you know Shagg is gonna wanna check out Flash when it starts, and you have to watch the Arrow episodes first as the origin pretty much occurs there. So get on it, or I’m taking away your DC Fanboy cards. 😉

  6. I was in a comic shop in St. Louis recently and this issue of Aquaman (#28) just JUMPED out at me from the wall. This is a really great cover. Nothing but praise for this issue…although I didn’t catch that the guy “stalking” Arthur was the archeologist at the end. oops!

As for FIRESTORM 8….sorry, Shagg, but by now you know I’m gonna play the yin to your yang. Sure, the book is “fun.” It’s entertaining, in a “Love Boat” type of way. But re-reading it as an adult its flaws just seem so obvious. This time out: why the dern-heck does David Drake’s hair get longer as Typhoon?! On second thought, hair changing color and texture when he ‘hulks’ out is natural, I guess. If I can believe that he turns blue, I shouldn’t worry that his clean-cut straight hair turns all Farrah Fawcett on us when he changes. So never mind. Oh, and speaking of the Hulk, for all those characters like him who changes but manages to keep his pants on, why does Typhoon lose his? Did Gerry have a think about nudism, haha! Seriously, though, is Typhoon the first buck-naked super-villain? Interesting concept. “And your honor, besides felony assault and battery, one count of indecent exposure.” 😉
