I was never an early riser, and Galactic Guardians never seemed to hit syndication in my area, so I've never seen most of these episodes. These commentaries can inspire me to get that done.

I'm not overly fond of Cyborg, but Terra Incognito collects issues from the New Teen Titans' salad days, so I'd back that recommendation.

Very nice opening sequence, especially with all the rotoscopey looking morphs into adaptations of the JLGLPBHN style guides. I do wish more heroes had gotten to appear in this season to take full advantage of that. Garcia-Lopez didn't do a guide for Martian Manhunter though, so that was extra out of reach.

I thought Cyborg was kind of Poochy in Justice League: Doom, but I guess the animated incarnation was already establish as a Marty-Stu from this point. I do think the "big brother to handicapped kids" angle redeems that, though, even if it does also polish the chrome that much more.

Firestorm's hair may flow, but I'm not seeing flames there. He also got saddled with the "annoying exposition lad" role, so his voice acting doesn't thrill.

Best Darkseid voice ever, with all due apologies to Michael Ironside. Kalibak is still up for grabs, with all due apologies to Michael Dorn. Killer design on the Lord of Apokolips, as well.

"So Ronnie, do you like pictures of young, taut male college athletes as much as I do? Have you ever considered doing some modeling on the side? Not even for me? I do so enjoy seeing those turtleneck polos of yours. You're obviously not wearing an undershirt in this nippy weather..."

A Wonder Woman show using this model and voiced by B.J. Ward would have been sensational. Ward is probably best known as the voice of Scarlett from the first G.I. Joe TV show. Would being lassoed from a jet plane have ripped Firestorm's arms clean off?

Fun seed collection sequence, and I'm glad Samurai still had a role to fill in the Super Powers era.

If I recall correctly, Mike Vosburg created the faux comic book covers used on HBO's Tales from the Crypt.

Enjoyed this immensely. I do need to point out that Olan Soule did not voice Professor Stein in the second Super Powers season. Based on the voice and the credits, I believe it was the late Ken Sansom who took over the role in the Super Powers Team run.

And yes, the clothes-to-stone bit was brilliant.

I look forward to more... especially commentary from Darkseid.

Best,
Xum

Mark me down for a definite YES when you ask for more Super Powers/Superfriends reviews!

And I know Olan Soule was Prof. Stein in the first Super Powers season, not sure if it was him in the Galactic Guardians, as they sound different (Soule's Stein sounded just like his Batman voice pretty much)

I will admit I haven't seen many of these Galactic Guardians episodes so this was a treat. And a much better experience with the link above.

While Geof Darrow is a very interesting name, I also saw that Mike Vosburg is listed as well!

Vosburg is another comic artist who I know best for his work on the 70s Starfire comic (I reviewed an issue here http://dcbloodlines.blogspot.com/2012/05/review-starfire-1.html ) and for later issues of American Flagg. He is semi-well known for his beautiful women so maybe he had a hand in the vivacious Wonder Woman in this episode. (I am a sucker for DC 70s Sword and Sorcery books so Vosburg and Starfire remain sentimental favorites.)

You'll like his Starfire page in Who's Who when you hit the S issue.

YAY!!!!

Awesome episode and great idea, I went to watch this episode last night and was disappointed that I no longer seem to have this DVD collection!!!! Somehow in the 5 moves over the last 4 years this collection has disappeared! And it looks like the cheapest it's available is $20 online! Man I can remember when I got it for $10 at Wal Mart.

About the new Super Powers figures, I'm curious to see if they will end up releasing all of the figures they did in the original line (I believe Mattel has done every one of those characters at some point in their DC Super Hero/DC Universe Classics line, maybe not Golden Pharoah?) on the Vintage Super Powers card. They have even released an El Dorado Figure, which was originally missing from the Super Powers line from Kenner. It'd be nice to see them release the Captain Ray figure as a Captain Marvel repaint. But then again who am I kidding, at $30 a pop, less figures is probably a good thing for all of our wallets.

Unfortunately I'm going to guess that these will only be available through Mattel's website Mattycollector.com, which will prevent them from becoming peg warmers and going on clearance, so unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll be able to pick them up at a more affordable $10-15

Great show fellas, I look forward to more of these episodes in the future. I need to track down a new copy of this dvd collection!
